Bodycare: The Products You Need to Nail Your Routine
Skincare has been at the forefront for a long time now, from retinol to hyaluronic acid, we are constantly being inundated with advice on how best to care for our skin to have us looking radiant and healthy. Have you ever noticed how body care hasn’t been given the same attention?
We think 2024 is going to be the year that changes. The skin on our body deserves the same TLC as the skin on our face, that’s why I’m here to show you some of the best tried & tested skincare bits to nourish your skin.
As we emerge from the cold, dark, winter months, your skin may be feeling dry and a little lacklustre, so get ahead of the game and implement a bodycare routine that will have you confident and glowing by the time the warmer months roll around.
Dry Bushing – The first step in your routine should be to start body brushing. This is a really simple way to ensure your get rid of any dead skin cells and is a gentle way to exfoliate. You can get a body brush in most chemists and they don’t need to be expensive by any means, just ensure that the bristles on the brush do not feel too hard or rough. You start at your ankles and apply light pressure with the brush using upward strokes, all the way up to your torso and arms, always brushing towards your heart. There are many tutorials and helpful videos on YouTube about dry brushing, as well as highlighting the benefits that come with it, such as improved circulation and lymphatic drainage. I will let you do more research in your own time if it interests you, but it is a great place to start in your body care routine.
CeraVe Salicylic Acid Smoothing Cream – Keratosis Pilaris, also known by its nickname ‘strawberry legs’ is a harmless skin condition that is common among both teens and adults that presents itself as little dots or bumps on the skin, usually on the legs or arms. Whilst harmless, it can definitely make you feel a little bit self-conscious, especially in the summer months. It can be caused by an excess amount of keratin and clogged up pores. Ways to help improve KP are exfoliation and ensuring your skins stays super moisturised! One of the best ways to do it is to use a moisturiser that contains ingredients like lactic acid or urea. This one by CeraVe is a great choice, it’s super thick and will leave your skin feeling hydrated and soft.
Eucerin 10% Urea Moisturiser – Another moisturiser which is great to tackle KP as well as just being a great all round moisturiser is this one from Eucerin. The formula contains urea and lactate which they say enhances the skin’s ability retain moisture as it helps to form a fine film that prevents moisture loss, perfect for giving hydration to dry and flaky skin. Just what you need as your skin recovers from the cold winter months!
Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion – Another great everyday moisturiser that won’t break the bank and does exactly what it needs to do. It has a lovely thick and creamy texture which may have alarm bells ringing for some, but this one really sinks into your skin and doesn’t leave you feeling ‘sticky’ or greasy for hours after.
L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil – If you want your skin to be the most plump and hydrated it can be, it is a good idea to make sure that the body wash you’re using in the shower is a moisturising one and leaves your skin quenched. The L’Occitance Shower Oil has been a cult favourite for a long long time, however it seems to have recently been picked up by the TikTok gals and is doing the rounds. Whilst TikTok isn’t always the most reliable when it comes to recommending products (it seems every new product is a ‘game-changer’) this oil from L’Occitane is worth the hype. It is more on the expensive side, however if you’re looking to treat yourself this is definitely the one to go for. Not to mention, the smell is to die for. The entire ‘L’almande’ range is *chefs kiss*.
Sanctuary Spa Shower Oil – If the L’Occitane oil seems a little bit too steep for your budget, Sanctuary Spa have a number of shower oils that will do a similar job for a much more appealing price point. You can get their Ultra Rich Shower Oil at boots for just €9.99, compared to the €22.50 you will spend on a 100ml bottle of L’Occitane!
Nuxe Huille Multi Purpose Dry Oil – Another body oil, but this one you use post shower on damp skin. At €32.99 it is a bit pricer than other items on the list however since it is a multi-use oil, it can be used on your face AND in your hair, so technically you’re getting 3 products in one. It absorbs quickly and leaves a delicious scent that lingers throughout the day. Love.
And there you have it – the ultimate bodycare routine to make you “that girl”.
