A Modern Take On 90s Fashion Trends

It was kind of an alarming realisation for Team Missy that most of you reading this are 00’s babies, officially making us nineties babies old relics. But lucky for us the 90’s are SO in right now. Thanks in no small part to the incredible Derry Girls the nineties are taking over fashion again. Thankfully it isn’t as much of an assault on the eyes as the first time around.

Here’s how you can work some 90s fashion into your wardrobe without looking like you’ve been caught in a time-warp.

Hair Clips and Scrunchies

Take it from us; you were doing 90s fashion wrong if you didn’t have a million hair slides or butterfly clips. We’ve already told you why we are obsessed with the hair slide trend but we are also here for scrunchies! As demonstrated in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before a scunchie is VERY important! Penneys, Claires and Topshop have lots of great options. The rule with scrunchies is the bolder looking the better and go super high with your ponytail!

Mom Jeans

The first signs that 90s fashion was on the way back was reappearance of the Mom Jeans a few years ago. Although we are ride or die for black skinny jeans it is nice to be comfy without wearing a tracksuit. Also, can we just write and ode to high-waisted everything?! Sometimes cuts can be a bit weird on Mom Jeans, so shop around and try them on until you find the perfect fit. We love these ones from Topshop or the original Levi’s, which are available in Kildare Village BTW!

Platform Trainers

I’ll tell you what I want what I really really want(ed) in the 90s, Platform Runners like Baby Spice! With the Spice Girls set to play Dublin next month it might just be time for me to make my 6-year-old dreams come true and invest in these. Well, maybe not the ones that Baby Spice is wearing in the above picture – they are insane! Also spot a 13-year-old Prince Harry! The return of the platform trainers have divided a lot of people.

Chokers

The ultimate 90s fashion piece was the choker! New Look are selling the “authentic” ones that ruled the 90’s, but we love Missoma’s offerings, which are much more wearable and so pretty.

A Modern Take On 90's Fashion Trends

Slip Dress

Yes, it looks a lot like a nightdress, but a slip dress can look amazing. We are obsessed with this one from Nasty Gal and it’s currently reduced to €24! If it feels a bit too out there for you wear it over a plain white t-shirt for the ultimate 90s fashion look.

Bumbags

You knew you were going on holidays when the bumbag came out! We are glad that we left the original bumbags back in the 90’s, but we are loving the modern take on them because they have reminded us just how handy they are. Even though we’re pretty sure our allowance wont allow us a Gucci bumbag we LOVE this designer-like offering from PrettyLittleThing.

Flannel Shirts

British YouTuber Emily Canham managed to tick off lots of 90’s fashion trends in this one look with Dr. Marten boots, mom jeans and a flannel shirt! We love the idea of using flannel shirt for the awkward in-between weather when it’s too warm for a coat but too cold to go without.

4 Key Trends For Autumn 2018

4 Key Trends For Autumn 2018

It’s hard to believe that a few short weeks ago we were basking in the summer heat and now here we are, freezing cold. There’s no denying that autumn is well and truly here, but that means that it’s time to dig out the warm clothes.

Here are 4 Key Trends For Autumn 2018…

White Boots

We really weren’t sure about white boots initially, but now we are now convinced that an outfit isn’t complete without them. Fueling our obsession is Rochelle Humes who has teamed with New Look to create her own edit of clothes. Rochelle is obviously a genuine fan because we have spotted her wearing these boots so many times. We need them right now!

Button Up Skirts

We’re pretty sure that you can’t go into any shop right now without seeing button skirts, and we’re not mad about that because we love them! They’re honestly so versatile. Black will literally go with anything, but we’re also loving this rust colour skirt which just screams autumn to us. Bonus points for corduroy skirts!

The Cardigans

Forget sweater weather, it’s all about the cardigan this autumn/winter. The 80s vibes are real right now with the return of the bobble cardigan. I mean, we weren’t alive in the 80’s, but we’ve heard that these were all the rage then! This is the perfect way to stay cozy as the temperature drops, but we also love how they add a splash of colour to an outfit. This Misguided cardigan seems like the perfect solution to the dilemma of what to wear to keep yourself warm when you’re going “out out”.

Pinafores

Pinafores are still huge for autumn winter. If you invested in a denim one you’re all set. We love how you can dress them down with a pair of Vans and a long-sleeved top during the day, but dress them up with boots for an evening with the girls.

How We’re Styling Our Fave New Look Coats This A/W

How We're Styling Our Fave New Look Coats This A/W Season

We at Missy love when Autumn/Winter rolls around because it means one thing – coats! Sure, the evenings are longer and school is back in full swing but there’s something about a nice jacket that helps ease the blow. If there’s one place that be relied on for great A/W wear, it’s New Look. We’ve picked 3 of our fave coats/jackets, and shown you how we’d style them!

How fab is this check camel coat? As soon as we saw it we knew we had to have it! Pinafores are also everywhere this season, we love how different this green faux leather one is from New Look.

How We're Styling Our Fave New Look Coats This A/W Season

Is it just us or are there serious Stranger Things vibes from this outfit? As soon as we put it together we thought “This is something Eleven or Max would wear.” To say we’re obsessed with this faux corduroy jacket is an understatement. It’s so versatile. We’ve styled it for a very casual look, but it would look cute with a dress and boots as well! The green from the long sleeve top contrasts nicely with the mustard, separated by the denim of the dungarees so it’s not too intense!

How We're Styling Our Fave New Look Coats This A/W Season

We are so so happy that Teddy Bear coats have made a comeback this season! They are possibly the comfiest things we’ve ever worn! New Look stocks this coat in a few colours, but the pink is defo our favourite! The burgundy of the shirt we’ve styled it with really makes the colour pop, and it’s a great way to link pink into a fall wardrobe. Everyone should have a pair of brown boots for Autumn/Winter, throw them on with anything from denim skirts, like this one, to jeans and they really make an outfit.

What do you think of our picks? How would you style your faves? Let us know in the comments!

Embrace The Mustard Trend With These Cute Looks!

Embrace The Mustard Trend With These Cute Looks!

You may have noticed one colour seems to be dominating the rails of most clothes shops these days – mustard, and we love it!

From bags and shoes to coats, skirts, and trousers mustard is massive for Autumn/Winter 2018. We’re not too surprised, it is a very Autumn-y colour after all! Last year’s A/W season featured a lot of mustard, but it seemed burnt orange was more so the “in” colour. Mustard is stepping out from the shadows this year though and is back with a bang!

We’re particularly loving the fact a lot of brands are brining back tartan, it’s very Cher from Clueless. How awesome is this Topshop jacket and skirt co-ord? If you’re willing to embrace the “ugly dad trainers” trend, these Fila Disruptor 3 Trainers will go down a treat!

If skirts aren’t your thing but you are still a big fan of the tartan trend, these New Look trousers are a great way to give a nod to the trend. They also look super comfy and will be so handy coming into the Winter months! Pair it with this  cardigan also from New Look to really amp up the mustard! A slogan tee with a pop of colour will break up the outfit.

Embrace The Mustard Trend With These Cute Looks!

We really love Cher’s mustard looks – how cute is this cardigan??

We really love the brown undertones of the pieces we’ve picked. Styling the lighter tones is really easy, and goes with so much!

Laura’s Look

How cute is that New Look jumpsuit? We love how Laura styled it casually with Converse, and some layered necklaces. If styling for winter, maroon boots would also be fab! When it starts to get chillier we’d pop on a classic black leather jacket, Penneys have some great ones for a great price!

Ellie’s Look

Ellie’s leopard socks are so fab and add a little something extra to any outfit! We styled with these gorgeous Topshop Mom Jeans and this PJ style shirt from New Look! If you’re not feeling the double leopard look, try styling the shirt with a pair of black skinny jeans and doc martens. Should you want to go for a more subtle nod to the trend, rock the socks like Ellie!

Cute & Casual

Who doesn’t love a good oversize jumper? We love this pink number from Pretty Little Thing. We paired it with a cute denim button up, and of course a classic pair of Dr Martens.

If oversize jumpers aren’t your thing, try a blue denim button up with this super cute and bang on trend crop jumper also from PLT!

Dress ‘Em Up!

Dr. Martens are such a diverse piece of footwear. You can pair them with almost anything and they’ll look fab! Coming into Autumn/Winter we recommend these awesome transitional pieces to pair with your Docs! Wearing a dress with your Dr. Martens is a great way to jazz things up if you’re feeling extra girly!

Firstly, this Boohoo floral tea dress is great for the colder summer days with its long sleeves. Pair it with a baker boy hat on those chillier days, as well as some black tights!

Nail 2 huge fall trends with this leopard print dress. We love this Boohoo one! It will look fab with bare legs and a pair of Docs in the last of the summer days. Add this cute borg collar jacket in Winter (another trend nailed, yay!).

We realise not everyone might have the budget for a pair of Docs, keep an eye in Penney’s & New Look for amazing quality dupes!

The Missy Edit: Mixing And Matching

When we’re putting together our fashion features we’re mindful of the fact that most of us don’t have an unlimited budget for clothing.  So, we always try to think of different ways that you can style items to make them into a few different outfits.

For our latest Missy Edit we put together a whole outfit which could easily be paired with lots of different options.

We take you through each piece and how you can wear it different ways.

The Skirt

The show-stopper of this outfit is definitely this gorgeous Topshop Petite Meadow Ruffle Mini Skirt.

It mightn’t seem like an obvious piece for mixing and matching clothes with, but hear us out. This can be dressed up for evenings with the gals by pairing it with a simple cami or lace top. You can also colour clash this with orange or yellow. Wear it with heels or simple flats. And of course you can pair it with tights come winter. Floral prints are also always a worthy investment because they never go out of fashion.

The Denim Jacket

If you don’t already have at least one denim jacket in your wardrobe, it’s time to invest. We picked this Frayed Vintage Wash Oversize Denim Jacket from Boohoo because we love the vintage vibes from it. It’s also oversized which means that it’s going to be perfect over bulkier clothing. A denim jacket really can take you anywhere. And for €29, this is a steal!

The White T-Shirt

Asos Petite V-Neck Swing T-Shirt

Lets be honest; you can pair a white t-shirt with anything. So, here are some our favourite picks for mixing and matching a simple white t-shirt this summer.

The Bardot Top

The Bardot Top is huge news this summer and we think it looks surprisingly amazing with a denim pinafore dress. This one is from Penneys, but there are literally hundreds of options. From a simple plain white Bardot, to bold and bright prints. Expect this this to be the official look at the festivals.

The most obvious way to style a denim pinafore dress is with the humble t-shirt. This super cute T-Shirt is from New Look. It give us serious 90’s vibes (which is so in right now!) but it really provides a pop of colour that our soul needs. This is the perfect low-key outfit for a day out with the fam.

The Missy Edit: What We’re Buying For Summer

Rumour has it Spring has sprung, but we sure aren’t experiencing it in Ireland. Yet!

Missy.ie is trying to be optimistic about the weather. As the Leaving Cert approaches so does the almost guaranteed LC heat-wave. So, we thought we would be prepared for when summer finally appears.

You’ll notice a lot of yellow in our top picks. That wasn’t completely by design; yellow is just everywhere for summer!

Yes, this is a summer edit, but let’s be honest we’re never too far away from winter-like weather here in Ireland. It’s always best to have a trusty cardigan on standby. We love this one from ASOS because even if the weather isn’t too summer-y, this yellow sure is.

We’ve already run through some of our favouitre picks for coats to help you survive summer. Again, a necessity in Ireland!

We also know that the black boots pictured above don’t exactly scream “SUMMER” but we just adore them. At only €21 in Penneys you’ll be glad that you bought them once Autumn rolls in abruptly. We’re also loving the fab Red Bag from Penneys which is only €8! Wear both with a white lace dress in summer and then keep them for winter wear.

What We’re Buying For Summer
