I Live Under A Rock, Please Catch Me Up
Ok, so the original cast of Friends all took to Instagram last night to post identical announcements that they would all be reuniting for a once-off special with HBO Max.
“The one where they got back together,” HBO Max posted in an Instagram Story. “The Friends cast set to reunite for exclusive HBO Max special #FriendsReunion #HBOMax.”

Is there going to be new episodes?
It’s hard to know at the moment. In the press release the words “unscripted” were used numerous times, which leads us to think that it’s more of a documentary/interview about Friends.
HBO have also said that it’s a “once-off” special.
If you’re hoping to find out what the six friends are up to today, you may be left disappointed.
The cast are reportedly being paid $2.5 million each for the special.
And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM 👋🏻

Are the original Friends cast returning?
Yes, the 6 main cast members are returning.
“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library,” Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max and president, TBS, TNT, and truTV, said in a statement.
There’s no word yet if other actors who played recurring roles on the series will be involved with the Friends reunion.
HBO Max Isn’t Available In Ireland, So How Will We Watch It?
In the US Netflix lost the rights to Friends and it was removed from the streaming service at the start of 2020, but Netflix still have the rights to Friends internationally, for the moment. So, the Friends reunion special could be on Netflix.
It’s also worth noting that HBO do have an agreement with Sky TV and Now TV to air their original content in the UK and Ireland, so that could be another option.
It could also be aired on traditional TV. Back in the day Friends aired on RTE2 and Ireland was the first country to broadcast the last ever episode of Friends outside the US.
Basically, it’s all up in the air at the moment. But there is huge interest in this reunion episode, so there will be a lot of competition to secure the rights to it in Ireland and internationally. It will definitely be available to watch somewhere in Ireland.
HBO Max is scheduled to launch in the US in May, so the Friends Special is expected to air around that time.
Once we know more we’ll update this article.
