How To Build A College Wardrobe
Ahh college…the freedom to do and wear what you like with no mammy to wonder if you’ll die from the cold with “those bare legs” or pass comment about the latest fashion trends.
BUT with all that freedom it can be hard to figure out 5 different outfits a week, especially if you’re heading into your first year of college and are not used to not wearing a school uniform -seriously, it’s very weird for the first week!
Here are some must-have pieces to have in your college wardrobe….
College Wardrobe Essential No. 1…a good coat
Yes, we’re still coming out of the summer, but the temperatures are going to drop very quickly. Chances are you have to do some sort of walking/commute to college, so that means you’ll need something to help battle the elements.
Although not the most fashion-forward piece of clothing, a parka will keep you warm and dry. Teddy Bear coats aren’t going anywhere and are particularly nice to snuggle into. This one from New Look is a great price!
A Pinafore is key to a college wardrobe
Honestly, there are just so many ways that you can wear a pinafore dress. Wear it with a t-shirt/long-sleeve top, knitted jumper, with boots, Vans..the options are endless. By changing what you wear under it, you can make lots of different outfits from it. You can also dress it up for a night-out by wearing it sans tights. Go for black, you won’t regret it.
A pair of trusty trainers
Everyone has their preference when it comes to trainers, but we do love a classic pair of Vans. They’re oh, so comfortable and just look so right with any outfit.
An a-line skirt
Another handy and versatile piece to have in your wardrobe is an a-line skirt. You can pair it with all of the same things as the pinafore dress.
A good pair of black jeans
Another of item of clothing that will see you through days in the lecture hall and spontaneous nights out is a good pair of black jeans. Invest in a few nice tops and a few t-shirts and you’ll have lots of outfit options to choose from no matter the occasion.
We love the All Stars by POCO, €95. And River Island also have a great selection of styles and sizes.
Mix and match pieces
Some other good basics to have in your college wardrobe include a good bag that fits a lot, the LONGCHAMP Le Pliage large nylon shopper bag is a bit on the spendy side, but it will see you through college and beyond.
Another essential is a reusable water bottle – not only is it good for the environment it’s a great way to save money in college.
Our advice is to buy well. Invest in things you need and know you can create a few different outfit looks with.
