How To Deal With Stress As A Student

Yussra Benrabah

It is completely normal to experience stress as a student. It is how you deal with it that matters. There’s a lot of pressure with exams and assignments piling up during exam season which can lead to burnout and high stress if not taken care of properly. Here are ways to deal with stress management as a student.

Make a To-do List

When you’re overwhelmed it can feel like there’s too much to do and not enough time. To combat this feeling, write every little thing that you need to do down even if it’s as simple as making your bed. Ticking this off your to-do list will have you feeling a sense of accomplishment and make you feel motivated to do more. If every task is written down it can be easier to visualise what it is you need to do and when. Slowly but surely you will find yourself getting through your tasks.

Go For A Walk

Sometimes you find yourself in a funk and it’s why you are so stressed because you know you have things to do but just can’t get yourself to do them. Going for a walk can be a great way to have you feeling refreshed and hopefully feeling better about starting whatever was stressing you out.

Set A Timer

Sometimes getting started is the worst part. You constantly are talking yourself out of doing a task, stressed about it taking a long time, or not knowing how to do the work. However, if you simply set a timer for five minutes and get to work, you will most likely find yourself already engrossed in whatever task you started and will likely not want to stop.

Join A Study Group

If working by yourself doesn’t leave you getting any work done then maybe joining a study group can be just what you need. Working in a group can leave you feeling accountable and push you to get some study done. Sometimes being around others who are working can motivate you to get some work done.

Talk To Someone

Finally, if everything listed above doesn’t work for you then I’d suggest talking to a trusted adult. This can be really helpful for if you want to vent or need to ask for an extension from a professor. If you think you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it.
