Organisation Hacks

Ella Morley

Balancing work, school, college and day-to-day life can be very challenging. Getting organised helps to create this a more harmonious life. You will find that by spending a small amount of your time on organisation will benefit you in the long run and will stand to you when looking for that all important balance.

Here are some organisation hacks to try now…

Plan

As Benjamin Franklin famously said “Failing to plan is planning to fail”. A plan is essential in order to stay on top of things. Keeping track of deadlines will ensure you never miss the cut-off date.

Creating a timetable will help keep you on track. Remember to schedule breaks as well. This will give you that extra ounce of motivation you need to keep going. You will have something to look forward to and can use that time however you see fit. Whether you want to catch up on the latest episode of a television show or pick up a book this time is completely reserved for you.

Write it down

Purchase a planner. It will become a lifesaver and you will not realise how much you need it until you have it. Write out what you need to do. Keep your planner with you at all times and this way if you suddenly remember something you can note it down in an instant.

Events will become so much easier to keep track of and you will find that you never miss a deadline again. Setting daily goals can help you become as productive as possible and make sure that you are managing your time wisely.

Try the Head Plan Journal for keeping track of everything, and it’s also an Irish company.

Define your space

Defining a space to complete work is crucial in order for any attempt at organisation to be successful. By doing so you are creating a fine line between working and taking it easy. This way when you are finished your work you can leave the room and will not have to think about it again for a while.

Separating your workspace from a relaxing space in order to help prevent getting distracted. Studying in your bedroom for instance will only make you want to lie down and rest which is the exact opposite result of what you are trying to achieve.

Colour coding

Colour coding is very effective especially when trying to get organised. It’s definitely my top tip when it comes to organisation hacks. If you have not tried this yet you should definitely give it a go.

We have all been in the situation where when sifting through a pile, we cannot find what we are looking for. This is certainly a very stressful situation to be in especially if you are in a rush. However, when things are colour coded these worries are eliminated. You know straight away which folder is for English, Irish or Maths rather than having to look through each to find the subject you are looking for.

Get ready the night before

Getting ready the night before is a great way to organise yourself. Picking out an outfit and laying it somewhere you will be able to find it quickly in the morning will prevent you from having to search for an outfit the next day. This gives you more time in the morning to prepare for the day ahead.

Make sure to have the books you will need and all other essentials ready to go and you will be flying!
