Signs of A Good Friend
As Edna Buchanan once said ‘friends are the family we choose for ourselves’. Good friends are few and far between but when they do walk into our lives it is important to hold onto them.
Sometimes it can be hard to identify a true friend from a fake one. Here are some signs of a good friend to look out for…
They are always there for you
A good friend is always there for you in good times and in bad. Friends may appear during your success but will disappear just as quick in moments of adversity. However true friends will be there no matter what. They will make you feel like a priority in their lives and will always listen. You can talk to them about anything and vent to them about personal problems knowing they will not tell everyone around them. They will boost your self-esteem when you are feeling low and celebrate your happiness.
Doesn’t bring you down
A true friend cares about your feelings. They do not bring you down to make themselves look or feel better. They will never talk down to you, act above you or become condescending. They will instead look out for you and stick up for you when needed. Good friends will never laugh at you – only with you and are happy when you are happy too.
Honest
Honesty is the best policy as the popular saying goes. A good friend will let you know when you are in the wrong, in a polite manner. They are not afraid to confront you and vice versa. If either of you are having issues, the other one will do their best to help sort it out. They will help you to make good decisions and set you on the right path.
Support you
True friends support you regardless of what happens. They are happy for your success and celebrate with you for your achievements. More importantly, they will remain by your side during tough times. They are never jealous of you but instead encourage and inspire you to reach for the stars. A good friend will help you to achieve your dreams and goals wherever they can.
Wants you to be the best person you can be
Good friends bring out the best in each other and stick together. They influence us to live life to the fullest and best of our ability. Many people will walk in and out of our lives. However only a few will stay and those who chose to often provide us with great love and friendship. Those who chose not to, don’t know what they are missing.
It’s not just a case of looking for signs of a good friend, you need to be a good friend too.
