Splurge vs. Save: Skincare Dupes for Expensive Products

Aimee Walsh

We all want to look after our skin and keep it healthy and looking great, but at what cost? Sometimes skincare products can be extremely expensive and not budget friendly.
Thankfully, there are tons of dupes out there for expensive products that will have the same effect on your skin, they even contain the same ingredients – just a smaller price tag. Here are our faves:

Aldi Lacura Glycolic Tonic (€4.99) Dupe for Pixi Glow Tonic (€15.67)

Aldi have been giving us dupes of well-known expensive make-up and skincare products, and we’re here for it. Their Lacura Glycolic Tonic firms and tightens the skin, as well as adding a healthy glow to the skin. The main ingredient, glycolic acid, is known to have huge benefits for the skin such as removing the dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin, revealing a smoother and newer appearance. Both products contain 5% glycolic acid, and reviewers have confirmed they are very similar products in terms of results.

The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling solution (€7.25) dupe for Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Babyfacial (€70)

The Ordinary has been making waves in the beauty industry in recent years with their affordable, great quality skincare. It can sound a little scary with all of the letters and numbers, so let us break it down. BHA are Beta hydroxy acids which exfoliate the skin and also help to clear out pores. AHA’s are Alpha hydroxy acid (stay with us) which in this case is glycolic acid. This combined 32% solution fights visible blemishes and help skin look radiant.
The Drunk Elephant version has been deemed the best of it’s kind on the market by multiple reviewers, but if you’re looking for a cheap alternative that delivers similar results you should give this one a go.

Mario Badescu Seaweed Night Cream (€24.50) dupe for LA MER the moisturising soft cream (€140)

If you’re not new to the skincare game, you would have for sure heard of the infamous LA MER. No, that’s not a typo above, that moisturiser is actually €140.00. LA MER is a luxury skincare brand, which derives it’s products from the sea and a unique fermentation process. Sounds great but unfortunately not everyone has over €100 to spend on moisturiser, so in comes Mario Badescu Seaweed night cream, an oil-free cream to soften, hydrate and nourish the skin. Although we can’t say it’s exactly the same, it has gained a reputation for being the closest thing to the LA MER version.

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion (€7.50) Dupe for Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Sleeping Oil (€49)

Sunday Riley is a popular brand amongst skincare lovers, and is a cult favourite. Their Luna retinol sleeping oil is their best-selling product, but comes in a little pricey. Thankfully The Ordinary have saved the day again, with their affordable serum that has become a popular dupe. This product targets all signs of ageing by smoothing out any fine lines and wrinkles. The key ingredient is Solubilized Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, a next-generation Retinoid which shows dramatic reduction in visible signs of ageing without the dryness and irritation that can sometimes occur when using Retinol products.

Revolution Pink Clay Detoxifying Face Mask (€9.75) Dupe for Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask (€29.25)

Pink clay masks have been a must-have for beauty lovers for a while now, and the most famous one is definitely the Sand & Sky Australian Pink Clay Mask. But understandably, not everyone fancies forking out a hefty 30 euro for a face mask. Revolution are known for their makeup, but this pink clay detoxifying mask is a great dupe for the more expensive one. Pink clay is rich in silica, which helps skin elasticity and cell renewal for younger looking skin. It gently exfoliates, leaving the skin soft and smooth with a radiant complexion.
