Romanticising our lives, one rainy school morning at a time.
There’s something about autumn that makes us think we’re about to become a completely new person. Suddenly, we want a cute new wardrobe, a clean bedroom, a new playlist, and our entire lives sorted out. Meanwhile, we have a maths test tomorrow and our schoolbag contains approximately 47 loose sheets.
Sound familiar? Here are the main character moments every Irish teen knows a little too well.
1. The Walk To School Is Your Music Video
You know the feeling: your favourite song comes on, the wind blows through your hair, and the leaves crunch from under your shoes.
For a few minutes, you’re not thinking about homework, group chats, or what happened at lunch. You’re just enjoying the moment.
Create a playlist full of songs that make you feel confident, happy, or just a little bit dramatic. Bonus points if you imagine the opening credits as you walk.
2. The Friendship Montage
Every good coming-of-age movie has a friendship montage, and autumn is the perfect time to create yours.
Think after-school hot chocolates, laughing until your stomach hurts, sleepovers, silly photos, and long chats about absolutely everything.
These little moments might not seem important now, but they’re often the memories you’ll look back on and smile about.
Make plans, check in on your friends, and remember that being a good friend is just as important as having good friends.
3. The Cozy-Girl Era (School Uniform Edition)
Irish autumn mornings call for warm socks, a cozy hoodie for the journey to school, and, approximately, five extra minutes under the duvet. The only problem? Getting out of bed when it’s still dark outside.
And then there’s the classroom, where you’re either absolutely freezing or wondering why the heating is suddenly set to tropical holiday mode. The school uniform doesn’t exactly scream cozy autumn aesthetic, but we can work with it.
Think fluffy socks for when you get home, your favourite cozy blanket, a warm drink of your choice, and a little evening reset. You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect bedroom or a whole new wardrobe to make your everyday life feel special.
Sometimes, the dreamiest autumn moment is getting home, putting on your comfiest clothes, and having absolutely nowhere else to be.
4. Your Academic Comeback Era
Autumn arrives, and suddenly you’re convinced this is the year you’ll have colour-coded notes, a spotless locker, and every piece of homework finished on time.
Will it happen? We can dream.
Between homework, mid-term tests, and trying to remember what day it is, school can feel like a lot. But your academic comeback doesn’t have to mean getting every answer right or never falling behind.
Try breaking homework into smaller chunks, asking a teacher for help when you need it, or studying with a friend who keeps you motivated. And, please, remember that one bad test does not define how capable you are.
You’re allowed to have a life outside of school too. Even main characters need a break from the plot.
Your Autumn, Your Way
At the end of the day, being the main character isn’t always about having the perfect outfit or the best grades. It’s about enjoying the little moments, making memories with friends and family, and enjoying moments you might otherwise rush past.
You don’t need to become a completely new person just because the leaves have changed. Sometimes, the best part of the season is simply making your everyday life feel a little more special, one rainy school morning at a time.
