The 3rd instalment of Riverdale Season 4 landed this morning, and as always we had to watch straight away.
This episode is definitely one of the stranger ones to date, and we reckon Riverdale Season 4 will only get stranger.
Let’s delve in and see what happened…
**This post contains spoilers!**
Are Cheryl and Jason Twins, or Triplets?
Cheryl and Toni hear Nana Rose crashing about downstairs. When Cheryl comes to her aid, Nana Rose mistakes her for Penelope. But that’s not the weird part… Nana Rose informs Penelope (Cheryl) that she thought the triplets were burning in the fire. Cheryl assumes Nana Rose is referring to “the twins” Juniper and Dagwood. However, if Nana is mistaking Cheryl for Penelope it is possible her mind was in another era and she doesn’t even recall the existence of the babies. That would mean she was referring to Penelope’s children, right? We know of Cheryl and Jasons existence. But what if there’s a third sibling? We’re excited to see where this story goes!
Moose Is Back
Remember Moose? Yeah, he’d kind of faded to the back of our minds too but it turns out he’s been attending Stonewell Prep, which also happens to be Jughead’s new school. We’re not too sure what the point of bringing back Moose, now Marmaduke, was. For now it seems he’s collateral damage for whatever war Bret Weston Wallis is waging against Jughead. We have a funny feeling that Bret and Jughead’s feud isn’t finished…
There’s an Oliver Twist Reference
This was slightly strange, and to say we were disappointed that the episode didn’t showcase some of Oliver The Musical’s tunes would be an understatement. Basically, Maddog informs Archie of a man by the name of Dodger (as in Artful), who is recruiting children to do his criminal bidding. Fans of Oliver will realise this is more of a Fagan character trait but we’re rolling with it… Archie first refuses Maddog’s plan to teach these criminals a lesson. In true Archie fashion, however, he soon changes his mind. Heading out armed with nothing but a scarf over his face and a baseball bat, Archie somehow manages to take on Dodger and his gang of 5 or 6. We know Archie is a seasoned fighter and all but this was a bit of a confusing moment for us. Archie takes (stolen) cash from Dodger and hopes to use it to turn his gym into a community centre. This dream is soon trampled by Maddog who reminds him the money is dirty. When Archie turns to Veronica to launder the money (not cool), she offers to just give him the money from her own pocket instead.
Hiram Got Creepier…
Just when we thought Veronica would get a bit of peace from her father and his criminal antics, he’s back. Claiming that because he owns the prison he can come and go as he pleases. Ok…? Having snook into his old home, where Veronica is now living, Hiram warns her that he can pop in on her at any time, and that she shouldn’t bother changing the locks. *Shivers.* Veronica isn’t having any of it though, and on her father telling her that he changed the family name to Lodge as he didn’t want to be associated with his father, Ronnie has the perfect way to really get on his nerves. Near the end of the episode, Ronnie visits her father to inform him she will be changing her name, to Veronica Luna, the name he so desperately wanted to get rid of. All we have to say is well played, Ronnie. There’s also mention of a taser just to be on the safe side.
Edgar Built A Rocket
Yep, you read that right… Just when we thought Riverdale couldn’t get anymore bizarre Edgar has built himself a rocket. We’re not sure what this has to do with being the leader of a cult if we’re honest. The rocket was for him and him alone, so seems a bit strange to us. After some escape artist work, Betty and her mom foil Edgar’s plan which results in a stand-off. Alice ends up shooting Edgar, but is this the last we’ve seen of him?
Cheryl Introduces Toni to Jason
Toni hires a nurse to help out with Nana Rose, however Cheryl suspects he’s seen Jason in the basement as he admits to being down there trying to get rid of a rat infestation. On heading down to the basement to check on Jason, Cheryl screams as a rat appears from his shirt. Hearing the scream, Toni rushes downstairs to find Cheryl leaning over Jason’s corpse, a needle in hand. Totally unphased, Cheryl introduces a shocked Toni to her brother’s dead body.
