Can you believe we’re already 6 weeks into Season 4 of Riverdale? Episode 6 hit our Netflix accounts early this morning, and of course we have our weekly recap ready to go!

*This post contains spoilers*

Cheryl’s In Trouble… Again…

via The CW

Poor Cheryl can’t catch a break these days. In this episode, Julian is terrorising the residents of Thistle House in attempt to get to Cheryl. After Dagwood chokes, and sent to hospital you would think Cheryl has had enough stress, but nope! Her extended family show up and demand she sign over her shares in the Blossom maple business in order for them to sell it. When Cheryl (naturally) refuses, things get nasty. Uncle Bedford breaks into the chapel one night, after Cheryl’s suspicious resistance to allow them in there. He sees Jason’s corpse (does the smell not get to these people?!) and informs Toni and Cheryl he’ll be reporting them to the authorities. He then decides to instead attack the girls, leading Toni to whack him over the head. We know Riverdale pretty well at this stage, so we’re not going to say he’s definitely dead, but it looks that way for now.

Betty Visits Chick

Riverdale episode 6
via The CW

Betty has her suspicions about Charles, tbh we don’t blame her. In an attempt to better understand a bit about his past, she heads to the prison to speak with Chick, a.k.a fake Charles, a.k.a The Gargoyle King. He informs Betty he and Charles were dating, and Charles killed a man when they lived together at the hostel (you’ll remember this from a season or two ago). Betty heads to confront Charles with this information. Charles tells a different story, however and Betty declares she doesn’t trust him.

Later on in episode 6, Betty returns home to meet a concerned Alice, Charles and FP. Apparently someone made a phone call reporting a murder in the Blackhood’s house that wasn’t committed by the Blackhood. You’ll recall Alice killing an attacker Chick lured to their home, she, FP and Betty covered it up. Charles tells Betty that he and the local sheriff (FP) will investigate the report.

They shortly return home to inform Alice and Betty that everything is taken care of. Betty thanks Charles for helping their family, and perhaps begins to trust him?

It’s at the end of the episode, however, that we get a real shock! It turns out Charles and Chick had conspired to get Betty and co to lead them to the body! They’re also in a relationship – declaring their love for one another when Charles visits Chick in prison. The two are obviously up to something, we just can’t figure out what…

Archie Hasn’t Learned A Thing…

Season 4, episode 6
via The CW

So you remember how Hiram Lodge made Archie’s life hell for a couple of seasons? There was the fighting, and the framing, and the going on the run? Well, it turns out Archie-kins has clearly forgotten all of that. When Dodger starts to wreak havoc on both Archie’s gym and home (shooting at the house when Archie and his mom are home) Archie decides it best to turn to Hiram Lodge for help. I mean, there is no logic…

Riverdale season 4, episode 6 is officially when we learned Archie has learned nothing from his dealings with Hiram. After appearing to refuse Archie help, Reggie and Archie show up at the gym to find Dodger rolled in a carpet, severely injured. I’m going to go out on a whim here and say that Hiram will be looking for something in return for this.

Jughead Is Back With The Conspiracy Theories…

Riverdale Season 4, episode 6
via The CW

Jughead loves a conspiracy theory, I mean, who doesn’t? His latest one involves his grandfather and his favourite book series, the Baxter Brothers. After struggling to write his entry for the ghost writer competition we spoke about last week, Jughead turns to the pages of his beloved novels for inspiration. He then notices something, the first novel doesn’t quite match up the following 4. The syntax, the style, something is off. Jughead takes his theory to Betty, who isn’t fully convinced but tells him to investigate further.

Jughead’s investigation leads him back to Riverdale High, the school Forsyth the first attended after leaving Stonewall Prep. There he finds a literary journal containing an a story written by Forsyth the first. The characters, style, and syntax of this story match up with the first Baxter Brothers novel. Jughead has his proof!

Jughead being Jughead, decides it best to confront the author, Mr. Dupont, about the Baxter Brothers novels. Of course this isn’t met with much enthusiasm and Mr. Dupont is very angry, informing Jughead his grandfather and father were nothing special, criminals and vagabonds. Jughead doesn’t give up that easily though, and turns to Mr. Chipping for help. Mr. Chipping believes Jughead’s theory, and vows to help. However, in the next seminar class, Mr. Chipping merely apologises to Jughead, heads to the window and jumps… Only Jughead seems surprised, his 4 classmates staring blankly back at him. We’re waiting for these to be declared the new “Stonewall Four”, which was mentioned a few episodes back… The classmates wonder who their new teacher might be, and surprise, surprise it is Mr. Dupont.
