When you are not in the mood to pick up a book for reading but still feel like escaping from life for a little while, audiobooks are the way to go. Similarly, when in the car or out and about, an audiobook provides a brilliant companion allowing you to listen, relax and enjoy new worlds.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

This heart-wrenching novel tells the story through the eyes of Starr Carter. After witnessing the shooting of an unarmed friend by a white policemen Starr struggles to decide if she should speak out or not. Beautifully written and eye-opening it won several awards across the globe and was even adapted into a film in 2018 not long after its publication. 

This novel stayed at the top of The New York Times best seller list for 50 weeks and remained on that list for another 30, proving that this book is the perfect listen.

The History of Bees by Maja Lunde

Unlike the title suggests The History of Bees is in fact a fiction book. Maja Lunde places her characters in three different centuries and tells three different stories held together by a common thread. 

This book is so wonderfully written that and the audiobook version is just beautiful to listen to. You find yourself wanting it to continue even when the book comes to an end. This award-winning page turner will leave you feeling attached to the characters, willing on their hopes and dreams and sympathising with their disappointments. 

The History of Bees is well worth the listen.

Miss Benson’s Beetle by Rachel Joyce

Miss Benson’s Beetle tells the story of a women during the 1950’s as she abandons her job to set off on a journey to New Caledonia in the hope of finding a beetle.
