Morning

Step 1 ‚Äď Cleanser

Cleansing in the morning is like a wake-up call for your skin. It doesn’t need the full works like it does in the evening, but it still needs to be properly prepared for the day ahead.¬†Go for something in a cream or balm that allows you to really work it into the skin.

Dermalogica Breakout Clearing Foaming Wash and OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel are high on our list of cleansing loves!

Step 2 ‚Äď Toner

Some people seem to have a bit of a love/hate relationship with toners, but we love them! No matter how much you try there is always going to be residue from your cleanser left on your skin after cleansing, toner removes that.

Go for a gentle toner in the morning such as PIXI Rose Tonic. Or even pick up a bottle of Rosewater in the chemist for a natural and calming alternative that’s also budget friendly!

Step 3 ‚Äď Serums

If you have zero skin concerns you can probably skip this step.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% is great for those who suffer with oily skin and breakouts.

If you’re looking to hydrate your skin¬†Glossier Super Bounce is great.

Step 4 ‚Äď Moisturiser with SPF

It’s so super important that you use SPF every single day. Yes, even in the dead of winter. There are still UV rays that will cause irreparable¬†damage to your skin. So, if you want to always have youthful looking skin use a moisturiser with SPF daily.

Missy loves Image Skincare Prevention Daily Matte Moisturiser Oil Free Spf 32

Step 5 ‚Äď Eye cream

It’s never to early to jump on the eye cream bandwagon! It really doesn’t make any sense to avoid an area just because it’s seen as an older ladies issue.

We really like NIP + FAB Bee Sting Fix Eye Cream.

Step 6 ‚Äď Sunscreen (if your moisturiser doesn‚Äôt contain SPF)

If you don’t want to use a moisturiser with SPF combined it’s important that you apply it now before you start your makeup. Yes, some foundations have SPF in them but it’s not enough.

Try Glossier Invisible Shield.

Evening

Step 1 ‚Äď Cleanse one

Your first cleanse essentially removes surface dirt such as makeup and grime from the day (eww!). As you are going to be washing it off and following up with another cleanse there is literally no reason to spend a fortune on this product.

Garnier Oil Infused Micellar Water is the bomb as is The Cleanse-Off Mitt.

Step 2 ‚Äď Cleanse two

This is the cleanse that actually cleans your skin and helps maintain it, so its way more important than the first cleanse. You can use the same cleanser as you used in the morning, unless otherwise recommended.

Step 3 ‚Äď Masks or peels (once a week)

To keep your skin in tip-top shape you should try to set aside two evenings a week to pamper the hell out of it. Depending on your skin needs try to rotate between exfoliating and a mask. (Don’t try do these on the same evening as it can be way too harsh on your skin).

We highly rate The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution¬†which makes you look like Kim KW getting a vampire facial, but it’s so, so good for achieving radiating skin. Sensitive gals might want to be careful with it. If it tingles too much start with applying it for 3-4 minutes and build up to the recommended 10 minutes.

If you suffer from oily skin, breakouts, or pores the size of craters try The Bodyshop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask.

If you have dry and tired skin try Glamglow Thirstymud Hydrating Glam To Go Treatment.

Step 4 ‚Äď Toner

Chemical exfoliators are all the rage at the moment. We adore Pixi Glow Tonic. Use this alternating nights (and not on the same night if you’re using a chemical peel!). It’s also super essential that you wear SPF daily if you are using chemical products.

Step 5 ‚Äď Serums

Again depending on what your skin type and issue is will dictate which serums you choose. Again we are beyond obsessed with the whole Ordinary range. If you suffer from breakouts The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution is definitely for you. If your skin is on the dryer side we recommend The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5.

Step 6 ‚ÄstMoisturiser

Look, skincare can be expensive, if your morning moisturiser does not have SPF in it you can totally use it again at night. Although a slightly heavier consistency is recommended for night-time. If your budget allows look to see if there is a corresponding night cream to go along with your day cream.

Step 7 ‚ÄstEye cream

When it comes to the correct order to apply your skincare, people tend to get confused. Applying eye cream should always be your last step. You should only apply a tiny bit and pat it in – no need to rub it in!

Use the same eye cream as you do in the morning!

Did you know the order to apply your skincare before now?

5 Spot Treatments That Actually Work

5 Spot Treatments That Actually Work

Why is it that spots just seem to appear from nowhere right before a big event? It is the story of our life. And being self-conscious about spots is an awful feeling.

So, we thought we would take a look at some of the best spot treatments that actually work.

From budget buys that are widely available, to Kylie Jenner’s fav spot treatment, to some impressive new technology. We have all the info that you need to help sort your skin out once and for all. And how to deal with a last-minute spot emergency.

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

Kylie Jenner swears by this spot treatment and so does Lili Reinhart, so it must be good! This Drying Lotion is a¬†blend of Calamine and Salicylic Acid, which clears up and soothes unsightly whiteheads overnight without irritating the surrounding skin. You simply dip a cotton bud in the powdery substance at the bottom of the bottle and apply over spots at night-time. If you’ve ever resorted to using Sudocream on spots, it kinda resembles that. This is especially good for those with sensitive skin. This is great for drying spots out, but not the best in a spot emergency. This really does what it says and drys out the spot, but that can mean it’s a bit tougher to hide with concealer. This is the one to use if you’re still a few days away from an event when a spot erupts.

Clean & Clear Advantage Spot Treatment Gel

Sometimes it’s easy to become cynical of the humble spot treatments on offer in a chemist BUT this Clean & Clear Spot Treatment Gel is wonderful at taking the redness out of those spots that just won’t seem to come to a head. It’s said that this can start to clear spots in only 4 hours, meaning it’s great when you need to get rid of a spot ASAP. This probably isn’t the recommended advice, but when it’s an emergency…apply this a few times a day if you need to get a giant spot down as quickly as possible. Definitely the one to have on standby in the run up to the Debs!

Witch Naturally Clear Blemish Stick

Another great drug store treatment for spots is the¬†Witch Naturally Clear Blemish Stick.¬†This helps to break-down excess oils and fights the bacteria that cause spots. It’s also oil free. You can feel this working almost instantly as there’s a slight tingling sensation. This is particularly good for bringing down those angry, red spots. This is also handy for popping into your bag while you’re on the go and for applying over makeup when you feel like the spot might be getting bigger.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution

One of the most prominent ingredients in spot treatments is Salicylic Acid. What is Salicylic Acid? Well, it has anti-inflammatory properties, so helps to tone down redness and inflammation of acne. So, why not just use Salicylic Acid on its own? ¬†The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution¬†exfoliates the surface of skin, clearing away dead skin cells, and penetrates into the inside walls of pores to clear excess oils that can lead to clogging. It also helps to reduce the appearance of blemishes and clarifies the skin. ¬†It can even help to regulate sebum production so skin becomes more balanced over time. Sounds like the business, right? Well it’s only ‚ā¨5.30! Not only can it be used as a spot treatment, you can also use it as a more general treatment to exfoliate and clear pores to help prevent spots in the first place.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Light Therapy Targeted Acne Spot Treatment

A new spot treatment on offer is the¬†Neutrogena Visibly Clear Light Therapy Targeted Acne Spot Treatment.¬†Light Therapy is similar to what dermatologists use to treat acne. The blue light targets acne causing bacteria while the red light penetrates deeper to reduce inflammation. You simply use the pen-like light on a spot to help reduce the inflammation. There’s a built-in timer that switches off once the 2 minutes are up. This is probably best when you feel like there might be a spot starting to come up, but if you’re looking to get rid of spots we’d recommend one of the above spot treatments.

If you are suffering from persistent spots or cystic-acne you may need something stronger prescribed from your G.P. If it’s concerning you go get it checked out. Also, sometimes your skin can become a bit immune to spot treatments after a certain while. If you feel like something has suddenly stopped working for you try mix it up with another product for a while.

What spot treatments do you swear by? Let us know in the comments below!

Why You Should Be Double Cleansing

Double Cleansing missy.ie online teen magazine Ireland

Double Cleansing missy.ie online teen magazine IrelandWhat Is Double Cleansing?

Let us explain, although it’s pretty self-explanatory. Double Cleansing is really just cleansing twice, also known as pre-cleansing.

Why bother with double cleansing?

Well, if you wear a lot of make-up in your day-to-day life getting it off at night is a bit of a task. Ever wake up to find makeup on your pillowcase even-though you thought you had removed all of it yesterday?

Double cleansing is needed because your skin doesn’t really benefit fully from just one cleanse. When you think about it your night-time cleanser is trying to do a lot; remove makeup and take care of your skin. It has to do twice the work of your morning cleanse.

Using one cleanser to take off the bulk of your makeup and then using another one to really pamper your skin and make sure that it‚Äôs super clean insures that you’re not sleeping with half of your makeup still on.

Double cleansing really should be a regular part of your beauty routine. Alas, we do know that there are some nights when you can only manage a face wipe, if even. And that’s ok, every now and again.

Missy’s Favourite Double Cleansing Products

The Pre-Cleanse

To save we would recommend buying an affordable pre-cleanser and then spending a little bit extra when it comes to your second cleanse. Your first cleanse is going to do most of the heavy lifting in terms of removing makeup, so you will only need to follow-up with a small amount of product the second time. Meaning that cleanser should last for a bit longer.

Another option instead of buying a second cleanser is to invest in The Cleanse-Off Mitt. You just add water and it should remove the bulk of makeup. For ‚ā¨4.95 it’s a great investment.

Micellar Waters

Fleur De Force made a great point in her recent video that pre-cleansers aren’t left on your skin if you’re following up with another cleanse, so we wouldn’t get too bogged down in ingredients. If it takes your makeup off, it’s a winner. The Garnier Oil-Infused Micellar Cleansing Water¬†is a good, affordable choice. If you find your skin is more on the sensitive side we highly recommend the original Micellar¬†water, Bioderma. The big bottle will last you for an age.

Cleansing Oils

Oils make great pre-cleansers. What you’re really looking to do is take away the makeup layer and not wreck your skin with harsh products. Oils are go gentle and soothing, but they also take away a big bulk of makeup easily because they break it down.

Even if you have oily skin don’t be afraid of oil cleaners. They’re actually great for oily and acne prone skin. Again there are quite a few options to suit different budgets. We really love the¬†Superfacialist Vitamin C+ Skin Renew Cleansing Oil from Boots. Another great option is¬†DHC Deep Cleansing Oil.

The Second Cleanse

When it comes to the second cleanse we are huge fans of balm or jelly cleansers, but you could really go with anything that’s already part of your routine.

The Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser is a bae and worth the tiny bit of hassle of going though the An Post Address Pal. It’s just a nice cleanser that won’t irritate or harm your skin in any way.

There’s something so satisfying about using a balm cleanser. There are lots on the market from Clinique to Pixi. But we love the Renaissance Cleansing Gel. Because it comes in a pump there’s no messing around with tubs. It’s¬†gel-to-oil facial is magical. It is super gentle, but it also contains¬† fruit enzymes which remove dead skin cells.

L’Oreal Paris Fine Flowers Cleansing Cream is also a lovely, affordable and widely available option. Pixi have also jumped on the double cleansing bandwagon by bringing out a Double Cleanser that’s half a cleansing oil, half cleansing cream.

Just a word of caution:

A lot of cleansers found in pharmacies and supermarkets are very popular because they are so affordable. And far be it for us to bash any brand. If the likes of Clean & Clear are working for you, God Bless. But such products might be doing more harm than good as they contain high levels of alcohol. So, always watch out for ingredients. And please step away from the St. Ives cleansers and the likes. That level of harsh exfoliation every day is not good for your skin.

Are you already on the Double Cleansing bandwagon?

101 Little Beauty Miracles: Part One

10 Beauty Hacks You Need To Know About

A little side note before we begin: this was originally meant to be all in one part, but the article became pretty mammoth. We didn’t want to shorten it down because we thought it contained some really great little nuggets of information. So, we’ve split it up into 4 parts. Came back next week for tips on how to get the best base, eyeshadow tips and tricks, face masks and hair care tricks.

In our first post we have tips on cleansing, miracle ingredients, DIY exfoliators and how to solve a range of skin problems. Get ready to up your beauty routine!

Cleansing and Care

1. Beware of over cleansing

Over-cleansing is a major cause of sensitive skin, as it strips the skin’s under layers of its natural protective properties. Make sure that you use an cleanse thats right for your skin type and don’t over do it. We love Glosser Milky Jelly Cleanser.

2. Steam Away Impurities

For a quick, deep cleanse, pour boiling water into a bowl with lemon juice and rose petals and hold your face over the bowl, covering your head with a towel. The steam will invigorate you, aid in respiration, and help lessen blackheads. Cleanse afterwards and follow with a cool-water rinse to close pores.

3. Go Large

Don’t forget the skin on your neck when it comes to cleansing and moisturising.

4. Sleep Clean

It’s a tale as old as time, but never go to bed with your makeup on. It prevents the skin from shedding and breathing which will lead to blemishes and/or blackheads to appear.

5. Assess To Cleanse Best

Your first step in the morning should be to take a good look in the mirror. Note any dry patches on the checks or oiliness in the T-zone. Hormones, seasons, environment and diet can all impact on your skin. You can then adjust your routine accordingly.

6.Keep Your Hair Off The Skin

Keep your hair clean and off the face to avoid making skin greasy, especially overnight when it can rub against skin as you sleep and cause breakouts.

Cosmeceuticals and Miracle Ingredients

7. C The Difference

Vitamin C has a brightening effect on skin an it helps boost circulation and collagen production, which means skin looks great. Vitamin C is found in high levels in citrus fruits, berries and kiwi, but also in beauty products. We love First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Ginger & Turmeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask.

8.Reduce Redness with BHAs

BHAs, beta-hydroxy acids that include salicylic acid help shed excess skin cells with the chemical sloughing effect and they are also anti-inflammatories, which male skin appear less red and inflamed. They can also treat acne. We love The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution and AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution.

9. Say Hello To Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful ingredient the occurs naturally within our cells and contributes to the structural support of the skin if it soaks into the lower layers. We love NIOD Multi-molecular Hyaluronic Complex.

10. Latch Onto Lactic Acid

Lactic Acid is a wonderful ingredient for extra moistirization because it helps the skin hold onto the moisture that’s being added through creams and lotions. We love The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5 + HA 2 or¬†Sunday Riley Modern Skincare Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment.

11. Give Skin A Feast

Skin is the last organ to get the benefits of the good things you eat, so often there’s precious little nourish, eat left, even if your diet is fantastic. Choose face treatments high in essential; minerals such ac calcium, magnesium and zinc to give it a boost.

12. C For Yourself

Vitamin C is a natural skin protector, necessary for the formation of collagen. As an antioxidant is destroys harmful free-radicals in the body caused by pollution, stress and the bad diet. Free radicals attack the skin causing premature raging, so vitamin C in creams and diet is a must.

13. Hands Off Oily Skin

Touching, stroking and facial massage stimulates the skin’s oil glands to produce more sebum, which is the last thing oily skin needs.

Cream & Serums

14. Use Less Than You Think

Don’t slather on more product in the belief that it will work better. Many good products are highly concentrated and only designed to be used in very small amounts.

15. Night-Time Beauty

Beauty sleep is not a myth. While you sleep, your skin regenerates itself, which is why night creams are such a good ideas. Make sure that you go to bed hydrated so the skin gets a chance to heal itself.

16. Do It Daily With Light Moisturizing

Every skin type needs a daily moisturiser, so now which one is suitable for you. Lightweight gels and simple moisturisers are good for young and sensitive skins. We love First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel Moisturiser.

Exfoliators & Scrubs

17. Exfoliate For Exceptional Skin

If left on the body, dead skin cells flake, dry and peel quickly, so the best way to keep skin looking smooth and evenly coloured is to scrub away those dead cells with a scrub. We love¬†Soap & Glory Scrub ‘Em and Leave ‘Em Body Buff.

18. Make Your Own

For a super-smoothing skin exfoliant, massage a handful of Epsom salts with a tablespoon of olive oil over wet skin to cleanse, exfoliate and soften the rough spots.

19. Tingle Away

Generally, tingling after exfoliation means you’ve used too harsh a product, but it is natural to tingle for up to 15 minutes after using alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids to exfoliate because of their chemical effect.

20. Exfoliate With Care

Don’t be tempted to rub too hard or use a too grainy exfoliant, especially on your face. Use an acid instead as scrubs can be too tough and the delicate skin. Pixi Glow Tonic is a great one that can be used daily.

21. Don’t Mix Face And Body

Don’t be tempted to use the body exfoliators on the facial skin, because products designed for the body are likely to be harsher and could be too abrasive for your face, resulting in irritation.

Skin Problems

22. Drier Than Dust

For skin tightness, cracking and flaking, choose a cream cleanser rather than a soap-based one and never use drying toners. We love Pixi Rose Cream Cleanser.

23. Use Less On Eczema

When it comes to covering sensitive skin condition such as eczema, less is defiantly more. Use too much powder or base and you risk highlighting the dryness and uneven texture.

24. Keep Clean To Arrest Acne Spread

After using brushes or concealer sticks to cover up blemishes or spots, always wash them well to avoid re-infection when you use them again. Or use cotton buds, which are disposable. Also keep your hands away from your face and pay particular attention to habits like rubbing temples or around the mouth, which you may do subconsciously.

25. Harsh Products Can Harm

If you suffer from rosacea, you should at all times avoid harsh soaps because not only can they make the symptoms worse, they also dry out skin making it harder to treat and cover.

The Best Makeup and Skincare Dupes

We love makeup and skin here at Missy. And when we say love we really mean it. We also love a good bargain. When you mix the two of them together to produce a dupe we become super happy! Here are some of our favourite¬†Makeup and Skincare Dupes…

Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara is a very good dupe for the popular Too Faced Better Than Sex!

The Wet n Wild Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana is EXTREMELY close to the famed Hourglass Powder in Dim Light. It is so pretty! It has a tiny bit more shimmer, but just barely. And it’s under ‚ā¨5, so we don’t even care.

Sources close to Missy tell us that Simple Hydrating Booster is a great and cheaper alternative to Clinique Moisture Surge.

The E.L.F. Gotta Glow Lip Tint is said to not only be a dupe for  Dior Lip Glow but actually better than the original!

We love Glossier, but it’s annoying to get it in Ireland and as we’ve already said, we love a cheaper dupe. ¬†The Ordinary¬†Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1¬†has very similar ingredients to Glossier’s Super Pure and it’s under ‚ā¨6! Our Editor, Dani, swears by the Ordinary after it cleared up her persistent outbreaks last year. Some of The Ordinary products can be tricky to get because they sell out so regularly. Try ASOS, Cloud 10 Beautyor Cult Beauty.

Another brand that’s difficult to get in Ireland is Anastasia Beverly Hills. Yes, you can order online, but it’s so nice to actually have the option to go into a stop and test things out before you buy them. Fear not though, we have found a great dupe for the immensely¬†popular Brow Wiz. NYX¬†Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil is just as good, in our opinion.

Penneys (or Primark depending on your location) have really been on top of their beauty game lately. We LOVE their Strobe Creme which is a very good dupe for¬†M.A.C’s Strobe Cream. Apply this under foundation or mix together for a glowly finish. Another M.A.C dupe courtesy¬†of Penneys is their 2 pack of blending brushes. The white one is great for applying eyeshadow, but it’s their black brush that’s giving us serious M.A.C 224 vibes! Did we mention that the pack of 2 brushes is only ‚ā¨4? We’ll definitely be picking up a few packs of these (okay, at least two) because you can never have too many blending brushes!

We’re not sure how Penneys/Primark are getting away with it, but their perfume range is really reminding us of that super luxe perfume that Brown Thomas stock! We’re not mad on the Rose Oud one because it’s so hard to get a rose perfume right and we think Jo Malone¬†nailed it. But the Mandarin and Basil perfume is perfection and smells the exact same as the Jo Malone Lime, Basil and Mandarin.

Speaking of that brand Aldi have also brought out candles that are very similar. The Pomegranate Noir (seriously, HOW are they getting away with it?) smells fab and it only costs ‚ā¨4.99. Aldi have also launched diffusers that smell divine as James¬†Kavanagh¬†would say.

Let us know what your favourite Makeup and Skincare Dupes are!

Penneys New PS…Nudes Collection Looks Amazing!

Penneys Primark PS...Nudes Collection

Penneys have been knocking it out the park lately with their own makeup collection. Gone are the days when Penneys was more miss instead of hit when it came to their makeup. Penneys has become the go-to for some great beauty buys. From their incredible brushes to their super¬†lipliners we are officially all about Penneys own brand, PS, these days. We are very excited about their latest collection, PS…Nudes.

Top Picks

The PS..Nudes Collection really pays homage to a lot of popular trends, as well as not too subtle nods to a few brands. We really love the look of the Bronze Metallic Eye Cream, ‚ā¨2.50, fingers crossed it’s a good dupe for Charlotte Tilbury! Another thing that caught our eye in the collection is The Highlight and Contour Kit ,‚ā¨8, which includes a highlight and contour stick as well as a brow highlight and a double ended application brush. It’s giving us serious KKW Beauty vibes!

The Lip Kits and 9 Pan Eyeshadow Palettes are very similar to¬†Kylie Cosmetics.¬†There’s a great selection of colours in the Palette that will be great for creating subtle daytime looks as well as a smokey eye. But it’s the¬†28 Shade Palette for ‚ā¨10 that’s got us really excited. This will probably be the hardest item in the collection to track down. Penneys have been earning rave reviews for their single shade eyeshadows. So, we have high hopes for this offering.

As always Penneys are keeping it super affordable with everything rating from¬†from ‚ā¨2 to ‚ā¨10.

The PS…Nudes Collection will be available in Penneys stores in February.

Head over to our Facebook page for a look at the full PS…Nudes Collection.

Is Glossier Worth The Hype?

Is Glossier Worth The Hype? And How To Get Glossier In IrelandIf you watch YouTube or follow any US or UK beauty gurus on social media chances are you’ve heard about the super hyped¬†Glossier.

Glossier first came out back in 2014 and is the brainchild of Emily Weiss who also founded Into The Gloss, an online beauty destination. The buzz about the brand has steadily been building momentum over the past few years. Initially it was only available in the US and in the Glossier showroom in New York. Hence the Glossier hauls from every influencer who stepped foot in NYC. Buzz reached fever pitch earlier this year when whispers began that the brand was getting set to launch in the UK. I’ve been dying to try Glossier since its launch so of course I was going to get my hands on it.

Now, the bad news up front. Glossier are not shipping to Ireland right now. Missy contacted them and asked what the situation was because come on, we’re right next to the UK and they are shipping to Northern Ireland. They say Ireland is a big priority right now so fingers crossed they get it together soon. More about how to get Glossier in Ireland below!

Thanks to some clever marketing and a big push on UK bloggers there was a lot of talk about Glossier when it finally started shipping in the UK last month. Word of the wise in general, if you see a lot of bloggers talking about one brand/product or if its features a lot in “blogger post” be aware that it is a marketing push. So, with that in mind is Glossier worth the hype? Here’s a rundown of what I recently got and my thoughts…

Milky Jelly Cleanser

One of the original products that launched Glossier. It’s lovely for the morning, but it’s not going to do the job of removing makeup. It’s very similar in texture and consistency to other balm/jelly cleansers on the market. I like that theres a pump on this and that I don’t have to dig into it like the¬†Elemis Balm. The price point (¬£15) is good too if you want to compare it to other balms on the market. I like it.

Balm Dotcom

Another of the OG products from Glossier. It’s nice. I got the Coconut falovored one. But honestly it’s not mush different to Vaseline or DR Paw Paw. Nice to have, but not overly remarkable.

Super Pure

The Glossier website makes the claim that 96% of users saw a reduction in redness within one week and¬†79% said their blemishes were visibly less noticeable. A big sell, especially when you’re struggling with spots. There’s Niacinamide in this which is really supposed to help with breakouts. Although it’s an oil it’s not greasy at all and goes on lovely under makeup. So far I like this, but its hard to give an option on this when I’ve only started using it. Leave it with me and I’ll get back to you.

Cloud Paint

More like Clown Paint. This was the biggest disappointment for me. It had been very hyped by beauty gurus on YouTube, but I just don’t get the appeal. I don’t think it blends nicely on the skin at all, it just sits there making you look like a clown. And you have to be very careful not to sneeze out too much product which is hard considering its in a tube. I think I’ll stick with my Coralista.

Generation G

This is the product that was added to my basket and removed a number of times. I had come across conflicting reviews of this online with Fleur De Force disliking it and The Anna Edit raving about it. In the end I allowed curiosity to get the better of me and I chose Jam, which is a purple colour i.e. my go-to. It’s not dry like I heard online, but I’m not too jazzed about the colour. It’s lacking a bit of dept that I usually like with my mauve/purple lipsticks. It kind of looks like I had a lollypop that turns your tongue a different colour. It’s comfortable enough to wear – a bit like a balm, so I might consider giving another colour a chance. Perhaps Cake or Zip.

Boy Brow

This is beginning to achieve a bit of a cult status. Firstly, a disclaimer. I have extremely blonde eyebrows that I tint myself, but depending on when that was last done they tend to fluctuate in their colour. I personally would not use Boy Brow on its own because I like to have a darker definition to my brows, but if you have naturally dark brows I’m sure you would rather enjoy this. It does give a nice amount of natural colour to brows. I’ve been enjoying using this with the¬†NYX Professional Makeup Precision Brow Pencil¬†with this over it to set them. It makes your brows stay in place all day. If you’re into your brows you’ll love this!

Body Hero Daily Oil Wash One of the most recent launches. I saw a review online for this that said it smelled like a “french baby” which I though was pretty funny. It’s and oil that foams up with water and leaves your skin feeling super soft. A bit overpriced, but nice. I think you would go though it very quickly.

Glossier Sweatshirt

Look, I’ll buy into anything especially if blogger is shilling it to me and seeing people visit the store in NYC and coming out triumphantly with a Glossier Sweatshirt made me want it bad. It was ¬£50 so I’ll write it off as a “Happy Birthday to me present” but it’s only a sweatshirt. Yes, it’s a very cosy and can be worn with anything but it is peak #basicbitch – which I am. I enjoy it for what it is. Not exactly an essential purchase in life, but nice to have.

Overall there are some Glossier products that merit the hype, but just like any brand there are some that are missable. So far I really like the Milky Jelly Cleanser, Boy Brow, Body Hero, and the sweatshirt. I’m interested in trying their¬†Mega Greens Galaxy Pack¬†and their new perfume, Glossier You.

The packaging is nice and I can see why it really appeals to bloggers on a superficial point. Everything is very Instagram-able. But I’ve noticed that the white paging does get grubby very quickly. Presentation wise everything again is a dream for the “gram“. It’s pink and fun and comes with stickers. But it’s hard to weigh up the merits of the brand when they are not currently shipping to Ireland.

So how can you get Glossier in Ireland? Now, there is a way around the shipping issue. An Post offer a service called AddressPal. Beauty Routines

*sigh* the joys of being a girl… there’s just so much to deal with and think about. Not just on a day-to-day life struggle basis, but in terms of keeping ourselves beautiful – that is if it floats your boat. There’s just so much makeup and skincare it’s easy to get lazy about steps in the ol’ beauty routines. Here’s an idea about what you should be doing daily, weekly and monthly. ¬†Just think,¬†Future You is going to be looking mighty fine‚Ķ

Daily

Cleanse, tone, moisturise should be your daily mantra, morning and night. When it comes to the night you should always be double cleansing especially if you’ve been wearing a makeup. When it comes to cleanser the¬†OSKIA Renaissance Cleansing Gel is a great option for all skin types. Also try out the Pixi Glow Tonic as an everyday toner. It also has the added benefit of glycol acid which will gently exfoliate your skin to leave it glowing, hence the name!

SPF application is also super important regardless of age or weather situation. Get your moisturising and SPF ticked off in one go with First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Pure Mineral Sunscreen Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 40. This is probably super obvious to some of you, but take the time to slather some moisturiser on those limbs too. I don’t know about you, but I tend to focus all of my time and funds on my face.¬†Kiehl’s Creme de Corps is a lovely treat but¬†Palmer’s Coconut Oil Formula Body Lotion does an excellent job too.

Weekly

You should take some time once a week to pamper yourself with an at-home facial. Depending on what type of skin you have The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask¬†is great for oily/ spot prone skin and¬†GLAMGLOW THIRSTYMUD Hydrating Treatment is excellent for dehydrated skin. Also throw on some cuticle oil to help keep your nails strong.¬†CND Solar Oil Nail and Cuticle Conditioner is the one all the salons swear by. To keep your hair in great condition throw in a hair mask like¬†Dove Advanced Hair Series Quench Absolute Intensive Restoration Mask¬†once a week. Also dig out the dreaded tweezers and deal with any obvious maintenance issues. Again the joys of being a girl…

Monthly
In terms of not-so-regular but still-very-important steps, we would definitely making sure your eyebrows are always on point with a regular threading. Eyebrows really do frame your face and make such a difference especially if you are restricted in wearing make up because of school rules. If you’re eye brows and eyelashes are on the fair side take the time to tint them once a month. You can do this yourself at home using the¬†Eylure Black Dybrow Dye Kit. Also treat yourself to a pedicure either in your local salon or do it yourself at home. There’s just something about having a nice pop of colour on our toes that feel essential to happiness.

Do you fall behind with your beauty routines? What steps would you like to be better at?

5 Products To Help Fight Off Spots

Look, we know spots are not the worst thing that can be wrong in the world, but sometimes in your own head it sure can feel that way. ¬†They can be a big hit to your confidence, especially if they just won’t go away. ¬†Here are a few things that we have found help a lot to fight of spots…

5 Products To Help Fight Off Spots

Tea Tree Oil

Most spot creams contain Tee Tree Oil so we reckon why not go to directly to the source and use a bit of pure Tea Tree Oil. We love the Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil, but Tea Tree Oil is Tea Tree Oil and you can pick it up in any health food stop. This is brilliant at drying out spots quickly and brings down any redness.

Deep Cleanse

A big problem with spots is actually what’s going on underneath your skin. ¬†You need products that are going to really get in there and sort out the problem from within. That’s why First Aid Beauty’s Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser With Red Clay is great for removing excess oils and unclogging pores. It¬†draws out the skin‚Äôs toxins and reduces sebum productions.

Salicylic Acid

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution¬†is excellent for helping spot prone skin. It exfoliates, unclogs pores, targets acne and congestion. It’s an ideal treatment for acne, blackheads or congestion. Salicylic acid can also be used in the same way as glycolic acid to exfoliate and brighten, it’s also anti-inflammatory. The best thing about this is the price point at only ‚ā¨4.90. On the downside it can be hard to track down due to it’s popularity. Try Cloud10Beauty, Asos, and LookFanatisic.

Wonder Pads

Still on the salicylic acid train¬†Waxperts Wonder Pads are a great alternative to The Ordinary and it’s an Irish brand. Waxperts Wonder Pads were originally made to help with ingrown hairs after waxing, but beauty editors quickly realised that they are brilliant at getting rid of spots. You can order them online or try a local salon as many places around Ireland stock them. These are great for stopping spots when you feel them coming up and for reducing redness.

Stay Matte

A lot of people sometimes feel tempted to skip out on moisturiser if they have a problem with spots or have oily skin, but this is a huge mistake. You need to be moisturising your skin to help keep it nourished. You also need to be protecting your skin. That’s why Image Skincare Prevention Matte Moisturizer is the bomb.com. It’s oil free and mattifying so it’s going to really help control the overproduction of oil. It also has SPF in it which you need everyday, not just during the summer.

If it’s really getting you down and if nothing seems to help it might be time to speak to your GP who can refer you to a Dermatogyst. Also look at your diet. Recent studies have found a link between acne and dairy consumption. So that might be worth looking at. In terms of trying to hid them use a green toned concealer over blemishes before your foundation and then lightly buff concealer over the blemish. We love M.A.C Pro Longwear Concealer¬†as it’s really heavy duty stuff buffed in with a Real Techniques Setting Brush.

Have you any skin saviours when it comes to spots?

10 Beauty Hacks You Need To Know About

10 Beauty Hacks You Need To Know About

We love a good hack, anything to make life that a little bit easier. From how to get the perfect ponytail to the many uses for coconut oil here are some hacks you may or may not be in the know about…

1. If you’re a lover of extending your hair with the miracle that is dry shampoo try this: spray in your dry shampoo of choice the night before when you’re going to bed. When you wake up the dry shampoo will be after absorbing properly into the hair so you’re less likely to be left with any unsightly white. Or if you’re caught out just spray it in and give your roots a blast with the hair dryer.

2. Wanting to achieve the perfect high ponytail? Once you’ve tied it up part the ponytail and loop the tie once more over the bottom of the ponytail to add a lift and lots of volume. Lydia Millen has a video showing exactly how to do it.

3. If you love to straighten your hair don’t go near the roots to keep some natural volume in your hair. Only start straightening from about and inch away from your roots. And when you get down to the bottom flick your hair in towards you so it looks more natural and so it’s not just hanging straight around you.

4. Coconut oil is the answer to everything in life, apparently. It works wonders as an eye makeup remover as the oil breaks down makeup. It also works wonders as a hair mask. Work it into your hair and then throw it up into a bun and let it absorb before washing it out.

5. Oh bobby pins, why can we never find them? To make them grip the hair better spray them with a bit of hairspray first. And did you know you should always flip them upside down so the ridges go against your head to keep them in place? We did not know this!!

6. Cleaning brushes is such an effort, but necessary to get all the dirt and grime out of them. Get yourself down t0 Penneys and buy a Cleaning Pad. Not only are these deadly for cleansing your face, but they are brilliant for washing your makeup brushes. They clean brushes super quickly and it really works all the old disgusting makeup out.¬†And the best thing is they only cost ‚ā¨1!

7.  A trick for applying under-eye concealer is to do in a triangle shape Рdown your nose, up to the outer corner of your eye and then under. Fill this in and blend, blend, blend. This hack not only covers and discolouration it brightens and highlights it to give you a super airbrushed look with your foundation.

8. Did you know coffee and coconut oil mixed together makes a great DIY exfoliator? Just throw them together in a bowl and rub in into the skin. It’s anti-inflammatory, reduces redness and helps with puffiness. It also helps rejuvenate¬†your skin. Plus, it can help with stretch marks and cellulite. And we bet you have both of them in the kitchen cupboard.

9. The secret to perfect curls is to hold the curler vertically and not horizontally. This gives a bigger curl with more volume. Also catch the curl once you release it and hold it for a few seconds to help hold in the curl better.

10. And lastly¬†M.A.C Prep + Prime’ Fix+¬†spray is the answer to everything. It’s great as a primer and for setting makeup. Also use it to slightly wet your beauty blender. Use it to bring out the colour more in eyeshadows that mightn’t have a strong pigment. Or use it on cream shadows that may have dried up to revive it.

Which hack is your favourite? We’d love it if you would share your beauty hacks with us below!
