How To Dress Like Your Favourite Rom Com Girl

Sorcha Kennedy

Growing up I loved old 90s/2000s rom coms, like My Bestfriends Wedding, 10 Things I Hate About You, 13 Going On 30, and How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. And to this day I still use the female leads in these movies as style inspiration. Now that 90s and early 2000s fashion is back in style, you can learn a lot from these fashion icons.
Here’s how you can dress just like your favourite 90s girl.

Kat Stratford, 10 Things I Hate About You

Kat Stratford from the 90s classic rom com, 10 Things I Hate About You, starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles is the perfect fashion inspiration for any tomboy. Kat’s outfits usually consisted of muted brown tones and purple or red accents, and mid rise pants with a simple top. Here are some pieces that totally scream Kat.

Andie Anderson, How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey is my personal favourite movie of all time, and Kate Hudson’s character Andie has some great outfits. Throughout the film, Andie wears quite a number of different outfits, including everything from workwear to black-tie event attire. However, there are two iconic looks from the movie.
The first is the matching Burberry moment when Andie buys herself, her dog, and her boyfriend Benjamin (played by Matthew McConaughey) matching Burberry outfits. Steal this look by wearing a beige sweater and a patterned scarf.
Another iconic look is Andie’s yellow evening gown. Unfortunately, we all can’t afford a designer evening dress (or the 84-carat diamond necklace she wears with it) but we can embrace yellow into our wardrobes.
This Storm & Marie Jerry Slip dress looks like something Andie would love!

Rebecca Bloomwood, Confessions Of A Shopaholic

This is another favourite of mine (probably because I can relate to the main character so much). The movie follows Rebecca, played by Isla Fisher, as she tries to kick her shopping addiction. Naturally, this movie has great fashion moments that are super easy to copy. Rebeccas style is super colourful and bold, and don’t forget her iconic green scarf!

Elle Woods, Legally Blonde

If you haven’t seen Legally Blonde you haven’t lived! Elle Woods, played by Reese Witherspoon, is a 2000s style icon and is referenced constantly (like in Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next music video). She’s the queen of pink, because “whoever said that orange is the new pink is seriously disturbed”. Here are a few pieces that are totally Elle.
