What I Am Looking Forward To After Lockdown

Ella Morley

Lockdown has been tough on all of us. Mentally it has been very challenging as the world as we knew it was flipped on its head early in 2020. It can be very difficult to focus on the positive during this time but by looking ahead we might be able to spot a tiny bit of hope on the horizon.

Brighter days are ahead. Here’s things to look forward to in life after Lockdown…

Visiting Relatives

I do not know about you but I am very much looking forward to seeing my relatives again. The restrictions during lockdown have made this impossible to do especially for those who live further away, but hopefully when restrictions are lifted, I will be able to see them again. When this eventually does happen, I know I will appreciate my time with them so much more, as I have been without them for so long.

Seeing my friends again

One of the hardest things about lockdown has been not being able to meet my friends. While we have all organised our fair share of ‘Zooms’ and ‘Facetimes’ it is simply not the same. I miss all the extra perks of hanging out in person. This is definitely the first thing I will be doing as soon as the restrictions permit. I cannot wait until this day and even thinking about it instantly makes me happier.

Being on college campus

I started college this year. It has been a completely different experience to what I expected. Instead of being on a vast and beautiful campus, I am stuck at home. Don’t get me wrong, I love my bedroom but this is not where I thought I would be spending my first year. While I am really enjoying my course, I know I would love it a whole lot more if I was actually on campus. However, if it means keeping people safe during this time, then I suppose it’s not all bad.

Meeting new people

With college comes meeting new people. However, as I am not on campus, I am not able to do this. Snapchat and WhatsApp groups do come in handy when trying to navigate college, but there is only so much these apps can do for us. However, having said that, all the people in my class seem lovely and are always willing to help. I am very excited to meet them all and the rest of my year in person and hopefully make a few new friends.

Going out

I miss going out. The days where we would grab coffee with a friend or go out to brunch or the cinema with a neighbour seem like forever ago at this moment in time. We cannot visit any museums or galleries and even the libraries are closed.  However, imagining all the places, I will go to after lockdown is helping to keep me sane throughout this difficult time.

The lockdown will end. The restrictions will be lifted. Although at this time it may seem like this will never be the case, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

What are you looking forward to most in life after Lockdown?
