Is Kylie Cosmetics Worth The Hype?
I’m pretty much a beauty addict. I just love makeup and I like to give everything new a whirl. But when Kylie Cosmetics came along I wasn’t so sure. Call me a snob when it comes to the Kardashians, but I’m always hesitant to buy into what they’re selling. And yes, I do actually know everything going on with them, sadly. But when they put their name on something I’m just not die hard enough. But my love of trying out makeup kept tempting me over to the dark side. I finally decided that I wanted to know was Kylie Cosmetics worth the hype so I made a purchase a few weeks ago.
The Lip Kits
The Lip Kits were what started it all. When Kylie Jenner first launched her Lip Kits they just couldn’t be kept in stock. Despite hearing mixed reviews about them I decided that I wanted to try them. I picked up Candy K which was one of the hyped colours when Kylie Cosmetics initially launched. I think this is very similar to the infamous M.A.C Velvet Teddy that Kylie used to wear. Velvet Teddy is my favourite lipstick because it’s the perfect nude with dept to it and Candy K looked a bit similar but with more of a mauve hue.
I’m not going to drag this out, I like it Candy K. It goes on very nicely. The lipstick is very fluid and applies easily and then sets. And it lasts. The only thing I really disliked about it was that when I topped it up it felt very heavy and caked-on. The lipliner was probably a game changer initially, but a lot of brands have since jumped on the crayon-like bandwagon. If you’re looking for a dupe Penneys/Primark are currently doing one for €1.50 that is every bit as good as the Kylie one.
The Eyeshadow Palette
The other poplar item is the Kyshadow Palettes. Seriously how lucky is Kylie to have a name that blends so well with makeup products? The Kylie Burgundy Palette is definitely worth your money. Even though it’s a little pricey you’re going to get good use out of it. The colours in the palette are suited for any look, especially at this time of year. The first time I tried it I was surprised by how good the pigments are. I understand what everyone was raving on about, but I never thought it would be that good. There’s lighter tones in it if you want to go for a natural look, but if you’re going for a dramatic look you can add the darker colours and the shimmery sparkles! You can create a lot of different looks with the various colours because they’re so versatile and they blend really well. This is another winner for me.
Is It Worth The Hype?
So, is Kylie Cosmetics worth the hype? I think so. I would be more inclined to make another purchase from Kylie Cosmetics than I would be from Glossier. The only thing that would put me off is the Import Duty which is calculated by what the cost of the goods are. The more you buy the more you will be charged. I think it’s a pity, but I can’t see there being a change in that anytime soon. Shipping was very quick and my order arrived a week after I placed it. Because I bought three items together I got free international shipping but otherwise shipping is quite expensive. You’re left trading off free shipping for Import Duties. I’ll definitely try another Lip Kit. Maybe 22 or Kirsten. But I think I’ll have to refrain from another eyeshadow palette because even I think I have too many now!
