Is Mamma Mia 3 Really Happening?

As a diehard Mamma Mia fan, I was over the moon to hear that there is a possibility of a third movie. Speaking to the Daily Mail last week, the producer of the musical and the two movies, Judy Craymer, sparked hope of a third movie by saying “ I think one day there will be another film because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see… I know Universal would like me to do it.” She also floated the idea that the second movie, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, could become a stage musical.
Unfortunately, Amanda Seyfried, who plays Sophie, said “Listen, every single person in that movie would say yes in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other. That’s what we talked about last time, like did we ever think that we’d end up here again on an Island in Croatia? So yeah, I wish there was a Mamma Mia 3, but I’ll tell you what – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope I’m wrong again. I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie.”
In 2019, Christine Baranski, who plays Tanya, said that maybe instead of a third movie they should “ get together on a greek island and do something fun that’s on YouTube, like all of us getting together and having dinner and telling stories, and getting up and signing”. In 2018, during press for the second movie, Amanda Seyfried and Lily James joked that the third movie could be “Mamma Mia, the DNA test” where we would finally find out who Sophies dad is.
Some good Mamma Mia news…
Although the chances of a third movie are looking slim, one thing to look forward to is Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is being added to Netflix on the 26th of June!
