The Alix Earle Effect: Growing Your Social Media Presence

Rachael Dunphy

If you’ve been on TikTok over the last few weeks, it’s been hard to miss creator Alix Earle. The 22 year-old influencer is a student at the University of Miami and has grown her socials by over 2 million in just a few weeks, and currently boasts over 4 million followers on TikTok, as well as 1.6 million on her Instagram.

Who Is Alix Earle?

Alix is known for her chatty style videos, where she shows herself getting ready for coffee runs, daily errands and these days, heading to glam events. Her makeup routine has taken over the internet, with thousands heading to find powder puffs instead of makeup sponges and white eyeliner instead of black.

But what Alix Earle is doing isn’t new; there’s hundreds if not thousands of influencers on TikTok and Instagram today doing the same, all following in the footsteps of the OG YouTubers who paved the way.

Being a content creator or ‘influencer’ is a more popular career path than you think. A generation before us, the dream was to be an actor or a singer, but today wanting to forge a career for yourself on the internet is as much of a career as being a teacher or an engineer.

Turning The Alix Earle Effect Into A Career

We all know that having a video or post go viral is down to luck. Algorithms, how many followers you already have and what platform you’ve posted on all play a part in how many people will see your GRWM, Day in the Life or OOTD. But if building your social media presence is on your 2023 New Year’s Resolutions, it might be time to look a little closer than a photo dump once a month.

With most things in life, consistency is key, and building your socials is no different. Consistent posting, whether that be on stories or your feed connects you with a bigger audience, and gives you more of a chance of getting that big ‘viral video’.

We all know what we like to see in an influencer. Whether that be glammed up ideas of a city life, or a down to earth vision of them in their pyjamas on a Saturday night. So why not channel what you like in an influencer into your own content. Platforms like TikTok and even Pinterest can inspire your own accounts and which direction you want to bring your content in.

Find Your Own Passions

One of the most important things to remember when starting to build your social media, is to do it for you. Hard work will always show, but if you’re creating stories, reels and TikTok’s because you think that’s what your followers want to see, you’ll soon fall out of love with what you’re creating.

Social media content should be some fun to show off your interests and creative flair, not what you think other people want to see from you.

Remember, having a fun creative social media presence isn’t about getting scouted for a reality show or brand deals, but is all about doing something you love and creating a digital scrapbook to remember your teen years.
