Our Favourite Looks From The Met Gala 2021
The 2021 Met Gala took place last night, after being delayed nearly a year and a half due to COVID-19. This year’s gala will be in celebration of the Costume Institute’s newest exhibition, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which opens on September 18th.
There were some interesting looks from the night, and we’ve rounded up some of our favourites…
Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X ‘pulled a Lady Gaga’ and wore a multi layered costume, which he changed throughout the duration of the red carpet. All three outfits were designed by Donatella Versace.
Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish co-chaired this year’s Met Gala, and she made a statement in an amazing vintage inspired ball gown. The gown was designed by Oscar de la Renta. Billie, who is vegan and an animal rights activist said it was “an honor to wear this dress knowing that going forward Oscar de la Renta will be completely fur-free.”
Lily Reinhart
Lily Reinhart is being praised for understanding the assignment. Her sheer Christian Siriano dress is adorned with flowers from all 50 states, tying into the theme perfectly.
Dan Levy
Dan Levy wowed the crowds on the red carpet in an amazing JW Anderson and Loewe creation, with accessories by Cartier. Dan’s outfit was a statement on the LGBTQ+ community, taking to Instagram the Schitt’s Creek star wrote “we wanted to celebrate queer love and visibility – acknowledging how hard artists like Wojnarovicz had to fight, while also presenting the imagery in a way that offered a hopeful message.”
Timothée Chalamet
Timothée Chalamet was also a co-chair of this year’s event. Usually guests wear a creation by one designer, however Timothée revealed he was wearing a ‘mix of everything.’ His luxe white sweat suit included a jacket from Haider Ackermann, a Rick Owens turtleneck, and white classic Chuck Taylor Converses.
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner wore custom Givenchy, in a gown that paid homage to Audrey Hepburn’s Eliza Doolittle. Kendall’s makeup also plays homage to the classic look Audrey wore back in the day.
Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo made her Met Gala debut in Saint Laurent. The Gen-Z singer told Vogue “I think Saint Laurent does a great job of making punk rock feminine, so that is what I was going for.”
Keke Palmer
Keke Palmer hosted the red carpet at the Met Gala, and like Olivia Rodrigo, this was her first time attending the event – amazing! Keke’s amazing sparkly gown is said to be paying homage to Diana Ross, and was designed by Sergio Hudson.
Yara Shahidi
Yara Shahidi’s custom Christian Dior beaded gown might be out favourite look from the Met Gala 2021. From the thin belt and gauzy trail to the elbow-length beaded gloves and braided cap, everything about this look was amazing! Yara revealed her look was inspired by Joesphine Baker.
Chloe and Halle Bailey
Chloe and Halle Bailey know how to work a red carpet, and this year’s Met Gala was no exception. This was the sisters’ first year attending the Met Gala, and they did not disappoint. Chlöe looked stunning in a white ball gown with a high slit which paid tribute to Marilyn Monroe, whilst Halle played homage to Tina Turner in a pink fringe bodysuit. The outfits were designed by another pair of sisters, Kate and Laura Mulleavy.
