10 Reasons Why You Need To Watch Gossip Girl
How you ever seen Gossip Girl? If the answer is no then there are so many reasons why you need to watch it right now. The series began in 2007, yep 10 years ago this month, but it was way ahead of it’s time with an anonymous blogger spreading rumours (and some truths!) about a group of teenagers in New York’s Upper East Side. It was based on the books by Cecily Von Ziegesar ,but the show became massive. It had us utterly obsessed for 5 whole series before it ended in 2012. So, with the tenth anniversary we thought we would relive the awesomeness that was GG. And if you haven’t already seen it here’s 10 great reasons why you need to watch Gossip Girl. Or if you already have here’s some excuses to watch it again…
10 Reasons Why You Need To Watch Gossip Girl
1. The Clothes
We dare you to watch GG and not drool over all the insane clothes. Although its dripping in designer wears there’s a lot of inspiration to be taken from the styling. Oh how we wish our school uniforms where as chic! From Serena’s enviable boho style to Blair Waldorf single-handedly making headbands the greatest accessory ever we just love all the fashion on display in each episode.
2. The Music
Music was a big part of GG. The mix of chart hits and lesser known Indie bands really added to the show. A viewing of GG is sure to have you updating your playlists. A few of our favourites throughout the run were One Week Of Danger by The Virgins, Signs by Block Party and Three Wishes by The Pierce’s.
3. New York
Gossip Girl really made New York a central character, so expect to be left pinning for NYC while watching. The show was filmed extensively on the streets of NYC and certain landmarks have become synonyms with the show such as The Palace Hotel, The MET Steps and Bethesda Terrace in Central Park. The sweeping shots of the famous NYC skyline are enough to have you hoping on to Skyscanner stat. If you’ve never been lucky enough to visit the Big Apple this is really going to make you want to go.
4. The Drama
If there’s one thing Gossip Girl did better than the fashion it was the outrageous drama. Scandalous hookups, falling out with friends, murder, returning from the dead, GG really had it all. Not to mention the constant question, who the hell is Gossip Girl?
5. Chuck Bass
Expect to hate Chuck for the first few episodes, but then prepared to become obsessed. Originally Chuck, aka Ed Westwick, was only supposed to be a secondary character, but once “Chair” was born it sparked a fevered obsession amongst fans.
6. The Famous Cameos
Don’t be surprised to see a number of familiar faces pop up during the series. Not only did it boast lots of celeb cameos from Lady GaGa (in her peak Bad Romance days!) to Hilary Duff, a lot of actors got their start on GG such as Sebastian Stan and Armie Hammer to name but two.
7. There’s 6 Series To Watch
There’s nothing more satisfying that having a long series to get stuck into. And with 6 whole series and 121 episodes Gossip Girl is going to keep you busy for a while. As with most series the first season was undoubtedly the best, but the OMG moments just keep reeling you back in.
8. The Paris Episode
The opening two episodes of series 4 were just wow! The series followed Blair and Serena to Paris for a whole lot of glamour and a big dose of drama. Only twice did Gossip Girl not film in New York and this was the first time. Everything in these episodes just felt extra and had us forgetting all about NYC. Prepare to get some serious wanderlust for Paris.
9. It’s On Netflix!
What we did before Netflix we will never know. But thankfully you can currently stream every single episode of Gossip Girl on Netflix. Or you can #treatyoself to the full boxset so you will have it forever.
10. It’s Just The Best Show Ever!
Nothing will ever come close to GG in our humble opinion. It was the ultimate teen drama that had a little something for everyone. Yes, it was vastly implausible a whole lot of the time, but it was enjoyable. It’s the perfect show to chill and zone out to.
