Gossip Girl Reboot: Everything You Need To Know

Team Missy

Ever since news came out that a Gossip Girl reboot was in the works we’ve been dying to find out more. And now we FINALLY have some additional info about what’s sure to be our new favourite TV show.

Here’s everything that you need to know about Gossip Girl

What’s Gossip Girl About?

Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.

The prestige series will address just how much social media – and the landscape of New York itself – has changed in the intervening years.

Are the original Gossip Girl cast returning?

At the moment the only OG Gossip Girl cast member confirmed to return is Kristen Bell, who voiced Gossip Girl herself.

There’s been no news on anyone else confirming their return, although producers have stressed that they are leaving the door open for Serena, Blair, Chuck, Dan and co to make a guest appearance. It’s hard to know if that will actually happen though as most of them are busy with different projects.

There has been some gossip (see what we did there?!) that minor characters from the OG cast will make cameos in the new series.

Who’s in the new cast?

Whitney Peak (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Eli Brown (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists) and Broadway actor Jason Gotay have joined Emily Alyn Lind on the forthcoming series.

Little is known about the actors roles in the upcoming series so far. But Deadline suggests Whitney could be the Serena to Emily Alyn Lind’s Blair—or vice versa. But the outlet noted, “The new series is said to have a similar character dynamic to the original, with Peak, Brown and Lind as the leading trio and Gotay as a member of the core ensemble.”

On January 1, 2021, we were officially introduced to these new faces. In a series of posts on Instagram, the official Gossip Girl account shared a look at our new Upper East Siders with a one-word character description.

The release of Gossip Girl was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but filming for the first season began in late 2020.

You can expect Gossip Girl to hit our screens sometime in 2021. If we were to guess we would say Autumn 2021, but we shall see.

How can we watch the Gossip Girl reboot in Ireland?

Ok, so here we go with our streaming service predictions…again.

HBO is currently not available in Ireland, but generally they have an agreement with Sky TV and NOW TV to air HBO shows in Ireland and the UK – such as Game of Thrones, Euphoria. So our best guess at the moment is that the Gossip Girl reboot might be available with Sky and NOW TV.

Once we know more we will update you.

Where can I watch the trailer for the new Gossip Girl?

There isn’t a trailer…yet. Expect one to drop soon though.

I’ve never seen the OG Gossip Girl, am I missing out?

OMG, yes you have totally missed out! You should definitely give the original show a watch before the new show airs. Although it won’t be necessary to have seen the original to watch the new show, it will give you a good flavour for GG and the original show was totally gripping and gave us a lot of OMG moments.
