5 Things To Know About Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

5 Things To Know About Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

We’ve already told you that we are super excited for Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina to drop on Netflix next week. Not only is it perfect Halloween viewing, it just looks SO good!

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina is actually a reboot of the popular show, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, but for a lot of people this is going to be their first introduction to Sabrina Spellman.

Here are 5 things to know about Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina before you watch it…

5 Things To Know About Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

1. There Was A Movie First

Sorry, but firstly how hilarious was the poster for the movie?!LOL

The original movie, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, revolves around Sabrina, who is sent to live with her eccentric aunts in Riverdale, yes THAT Riverdale – more on that in a moment! There she discovers that she has magical powers which she must try deal with along with trials and tribulations of high school. The movie is pure 1990’s cringe, Sabrina’s crush is played by a super young Ryan Reynolds!

5 Things To Know About Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

2. The Original TV Show

The movie spawned the original TV show, Sabrina The Teenage Witch. The show was pretty iconic to everyone who grew up in the 1990’s. The show ran from 1996 until 2003 and there was a time when you couldn’t turn on RTÉ 2 without seeing at least one episode a day.

Fun fact: Britney Spears appeared in an episode of the show way back when she was the Ariana Grande of her time.

3. There Was Also A Magazine

Ask your older sisters or cousins about this magazine and we guarantee you that they have a few lurking around at home and know the struggle of trying to get that nail polish pen to work! Sabrina Secrets was a magazine that came out every 2 two weeks and each magazine included a few beauty product to build up your beauty box (money racket, anyone?) but god help the parental unit if you missed a week! Good times. In a time before YouTube this was were you went for a braid tutorial.

We’re pretty sure that this is where Team Missy got their obsession with magazines from, so without it there would be no Missy!

5 Things To Know About Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

4. What’s The Deal With The Riverdale Connection?

There’s been a lot of talk about the connection between Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina and Riverdale. And those connections runs deep.

Both are from the Archie Comic world and both shows are also run by the same producer, so there’s sure to be that same 1950’s vibe but with a modern spin to Sabrina as well. In the original TV movie Sabrina lived in Riverdale, but in the comics and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina she lives in Greendale, which has been mentioned in Riverdale as being a neighbouring town. So, there could be a crossover at some point. And considering things in Riverdale have suddenly gotten very creepy with the Coopers now involved in a cult, we have a feeling that we will be seeing Sabrina Spellman in Riverdale very soon!

5 Things To Know About Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina

5. Who Plays Sabrina Spellman?

Kiernan Shipka is the star of the show playing Sabrina Spellman. Although she’s only 18, Kieran is a Hollywood veteran at this point. She previously stared in Mad Men and in a number of other roles. Kiernan is also a fashion gal and is regularly dressed by some of the biggest names in fashion. Her style is uh-mazing! AND she also wrote an essay for the recently published “Feminists Don’t Wear Pink (and other lies)“. So, basically she’s just our new girl crush.

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina is released on Netflix 26 of October. Check out the trailer below!

How To Steal Veronica Lodge’s Makeup Look

How To Steal Veronica Lodge's Makeup Look

We love Riverdale here at! The show is pretty outrageous at times, but it keeps us hooked. Another thing that keeps us tuning in is the costumes and makeup sported by the fab female leads. We’ve already told you how to steal Cheryl Blossomand Betty Copper makeup looks. So, now it’s time to take a look at Veronica Lodge’s makeup.

Veronica Lodge’s makeup is a lot darker than Betty’s makeup, which is meant to reflect the darker tendencies in Veronica. According to Teen Vogue, the Riverdale cast hides plot hints in their beauty looks. Veronica’s overall look is very pulled together and sophisticated beyond her years. It also gives us serious Blair Waldorf vibes!

We dug around to find out the EXACT products that the Riverdale makeup artists use to create Veronica Lodge’s makeup.

Veronica Lodge’s Nail Polish

Ever noticed that Veronica aways were the same nail polish? That’s by design according to Camila Mendes who plays Veronica.

“Veronica is like purple, navy, black, more jewel tones,” Camila told E! News. “You know, so she can do like a burgundy, or like a deep, darker red, like a wine colour. Her nails throughout the season are always Malaga Wine. Malaga Wine from OPI and that’s the nail colour I’ll always have for as long as we’re shooting Riverdale”.

You can copy Veronica’s nails by getting OPI in Malaga Wine in Debenhams, Beauty Bay and chemists around the country.

Veronica’s Signature Lipstick

In the first season of Riverdale Veronica uses Glossier’s Generation G lip color in JAM to create her signature berry pout. And great news! Glossier now ships to Ireland! You can use this code to get 10% off your first order.

Riverdale have a sponsorship deal with US cosmetics company, Covergirl. Which is why you see various Covergirl products placed on dressing-tables in the show. It’s rumoured that Camila wears the Covergirl Katy Kat Matte lipstick in Maroon Meow for a darker look, but sadly it’s not available in Ireland.

How To Get Veronica’s Perfect Brows

Head of Riverdale’s makeup department, Erin Mackenzie, chatted to Refinery 29 about how they go about creating Veronica’s perfect brows.  According to Mackenzie, she never wants Veronica’s brows to be as dark as her actual hair, so she keeps the brows one to two shades lighter. She uses eyeshadow (not a brow powder!) to fill in the actress’ brows for a more natural finish. Mackenzie mixes water with the brown shadow to make her own version of a brow pomade. She then uses a brush like wet n wild Angled Liner Brush like to create Veronica’s signature eyebrows.

Last but not least, she finishes off the look with MAC’s Brow Set in Clear to make sure that the eyebrows stay in place all day. Try e.l.f. Clear Brow & Lash Crystal Clear Mascara for a similar and more budget friendly effect.

How To Recreate Veronica Lodge’s Makeup

As for the rest of Veronica’s makeup, your guess is as good as ours. She usually keeps her eye-makeup quite natural, so that her eyebrows and lipstick are a main focus.  Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette has lots of similar shades. She also used liquid eyeliner on her top lash line to really define her eyes. Missy Loves Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid Eye Liner.

5 Ways TV Shows Distorted Our Expectations Of Secondary School

We’re not sure about you, but before we at Missy started Secondary School we had great expectations thanks to  TV Shows! Turns out that these TV Shows were very very different to what awaited us (thanks Gossip Girl…)!

With that in mind, here are 5 TV Shows that distorted our expectations of Secondary School (or High School as they’d say).

1) Gossip Girl & Uniforms

5 Ways TV Shows Distorted Our Expectations Of Secondary School

As we mentioned before Gossip Girl was a big one for us. Now we didn’t exactly think we’d be prancing around NYC on our lunch break mingling with Manhattans elite, but the uniforms Serena and the gang rock had us thinking we’d have more opportunities to customise our uniforms once we hit Secondary School. We were very very wrong. No blazers, no cute shirts that can be worn 20 different ways, and definitely no cute mini skirts. Nope, we were faced with an ankle-length nightmare.

2) Gilmore Girls & Grades

5 Ways TV Shows Distorted Our Expectations Of Secondary School

Ok, so we know Rory Gilmore is portrayed as being above averagely smart, but seriously, our expectations were way too high because of her. Rory is shown as having a great social life – she participates in local events, has friends to hang out with, has weekly dinners with her grandparents, spends a lot of TV time with her Mom, and maintains a relationship all whilst killing it on the grades front. We’re not saying this is impossible, but she made it look so darn easy! And trust us, a lot of effort is needed to maintain this level of awesomeness in school.

3) Pretty Little Liars & Drama

5 Ways TV Shows Distorted Our Expectations Of Secondary School

Thanks to PLL we thought secondary school was going to be a drama a minute. All those hormones packed into one space screamed potential for a drama overload but nope, everything was very quite! We were shocked! No scandals, no gossip that could bowl you over, no sordid affairs, nada!

4) The Vampire Diaries & Teen Romances

5 Ways TV Shows Distorted Our Expectations Of Secondary School

If there’s one TV Show that hyped up teen romances it was The Vampire Diaries. We entered secondary school ready to have whirlwind romances aplenty! Bonus points if the objects of our affections were some sort of supernatural beings! Again, this one fell flat on its face. It was hard enough trying to find a date to the debs we could tolerate, let alone deal with that level of intensity in a relationship as a teen! You’re not lacking anything so don’t be worrying – these relationships are purely for the screen, thank goodness!

5) Riverdale & Dress Code

5 Ways TV Shows Distorted Our Expectations Of Secondary School

This one is really only accurate for those days you’re allowed wear your own clothes to school, but still, if you think you’re gonna get away with the hem lines the girls of Riverdale do, think again! We would have loved to have rocked some of the fab looks from Riverdale, but we feel it would have ended in a trip to the principals office! Best to stick with these trends for non-school days, just to safe!

Did any of these shows make you think Secondary School would be different to what it is? Let us know in the comments!

How To Steal Betty Cooper’sMakeup Look

Previously on Missy we showed you how to steal Cheryl Blossom’s makeup look.

We asked you to vote on Instagram for who’s look you wanted us to cover next. It was a very close vote, but you chose Betty Cooper’s Makeup Look.

We love Betty Cooper’s makeup because it’s simple and natural looking. Unlike Cheryl she isn’t into dramatic looks. With her signature high pony-tail, we think Betty’s look would be perfect for school.

We found the exact products that the makeup artists on Riverdale use to create Betty Cooper’s makeup look.

Betty Cooper, is the epitome of socialite preppy. She can rock a high ponytail like no other, and is an all-American blonde beauty. Though her makeup look is minimalistic, Betty’s skin is always glowing. Her cheeks flushed with the perfect pink hue. And her lipstick choice is always the ideal pinky nude shade.

The lead Makeup artist on Riverdale, Erin Mackenzie, shared Betty’s exact product lineup with POPSUGAR.

“Betty’s natural look begins with Shiseido Glow Enhancing Primer with Guerlain L’Or Radiance Primer underneath for added radiance,” Mackenzie revealed. “My go-to sculpt and highlight palette is Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow, and Glossier Cloud Paint for the most beautiful natural blush out there! Or Charlotte Tilbury’s Cheek To Chic blush, in Ecstasy. I adjust her eye shadow each episode, always staying within a naturally defined zone, playing with tones to match her moods. Her lashes are made perfect with Clinique mascara and our favorite lip [last] season is, without question, Josie Maran Sting Plumping Butter in Free It. All this pulled together gives us that perfect girl-next-door glow!”

Lili’s Fav Makeup

It turns out that Lili’s makeup IRL may be very similar to Betty Cooper’s Makeup!

“I do actually use a lot of the same makeup that I wear as Betty on the show, purely because I’ve fallen in love with so many of the products. For eyes, I love to wear this Clinique mascara because I really like a thin, precise brush. I’m not a fan of huge, chunky lashes, so Clinique’s formula delivers a really beautiful finish, and I also use Clinique concealer. Brows are a big thing for me too. I think everyone on the planet uses the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo, which I’m a big fan of.”

“I’m also really obsessed with the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Face Sculpt & Highlight —oh my gosh, it’s just so gorgeous. I was wearing it for the show and finally had to get it to use in real life, too,” she laughs. “Then for day-to-day, I’ll use Tom Ford’s Traceless Foundation Stick with a BeautyBlender. On the show, we actually use a mix of the Kat Von D Lock It Foundation and Josie Maran’s Vibrancy Argan Oil Foundation Fluid, which creates a really gorgeous glowy illusion that translates really well on camera.”

Lili’s top trick:

“Applying with a dampened Beautyblender is the secret to getting the perfect coverage and maintaining a no-makeup look.”

But even though Betty and Lili are basically one-in-the-same, there’s still a difference to how they approach makeup.

“I guess, when it comes to beauty, I’m very much like Betty in the sense that I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and day-to-day, my look is very natural. For instance, I’m out to breakfast right now, and I don’t have any makeup on. But when I think about it, I do think I’m more willing to do a vampy lip or strong, bold eyeliner for a special occasion. Whereas Betty tends to stay in her comfort zone with her pink lipsticks and softly made-up eyes.”

Lili Has Skin Woes Too!

Lili is just a regular gal, like us. She previously revealed that she struggles a lot with acne. Lili even links it to her social anxiety. But she has a collection of go-to products to help fight spots!

According to Lili, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is “amazing for cystic acne”. She also revealed that she buys it “super cheap on Amazon”. Deemed as the “world’s most powerful facial,” this clay mask will unclog your pores and leave you with clearer skin after each use in just 10 minutes. We need this now!

Lili also uses a number of products from Renee Rousseau, which isn’t available in Ireland at the moment. She swears by Triple Berry Smoothing Peel, but you can get a similar effect with The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution.

“But if I want to moisturize, I use GlamGlow’s DreamDuo Treatment. Super heavy moisturizer — amazing,” wrote Reinhart. The overnight moisturizer provides the two-in-one treatment of an anti-aging vitamin-infused serum and hydrating cream made with hyaluronic acid.

If a pimple does pop up, Lili uses Mario Badescu Drying Lotion, which is a super-powerful calamine and salicylic acid treatment to zap away spots overnight.

Lili uses her freshly mixed and customized body lotion made with papaya and pistachio from the St. Ive’s mixing bar in N.Y.C. This is an actual thing and our minds are blown!

How To Steal Cheryl Blossom’s Makeup Look

How To Steal Cheryl Blossom's Makeup Look

We at Missy love beauty. We also love some Netflix and Chill. So Riverdale ticks all the boxes for us. If you’ve been following along with all the drama chances are you’ve been left admiring Cheryl Blossom’s glamorous look. Well, us too!

We were just dying to find out how to steal Cheryl Blossom’s makeup look. After a bit of digging around we found out everything you need to know. And not only have we found out the exact colour lipstick Cheryl wears, but we also found out what actress Madelaine Putsch‘s beauty favourites are as well.

Cheryl’s Go To Lipstick

Speaking to Teen Vogue Madelaine said “When I was younger, I used to be very afraid of doing anything out there with my makeup because I felt like my hair was such a big strong piece,” Madelaine says. “And then I learned from this show, specifically, that you can really use brighter colors to play up your hair, as well. I used to never wear red.”

To achieve Cheryl Blossom’s makeup look a bold lip is necessary. Cheryl’s sports a signature red lip, courtesy of Lime Crime’s Matte Velvetine in Red Velvet. Like most of us Madelaine loves a good liquid matte formula “I’m obsessed with Lime Crime because it doesn’t rub off,”  she says. To achieve a glossier, poutier lip, she just swipes a layer of Nivea chapstick on top.

“When we need something glossier to transfer onto something — or someone,” she laughs. “We’re on the CW. Of course there’s going to be some of that!”

For Cheryl’s more low-key makeup looks she either wears another Lime Crime Matte Velvetine in Riot, a reddish-brown, or the much hyped Spice lipliner by MAC. “I just line the lip, put a little on my lip and add a little gloss and it’s good to go,” she says. “It’s my actual natural lip color.”

Madeleine also had a confession to make about when it comes to applying her signature pout,”I’m super weird about my lips,” she says. “I actually don’t let makeup artists do my lipstick. I know my own lip line and I don’t want my lips to look strange on camera. I’m very particular about my lips.”

Cheryl Blossom’s Other Makeup

“Cheryl is a masterpiece!”  says Riverdale’s lead makeup artist, Erin Mackenzie. “We use an array of products to create her signature look, starting with NARS foundation and Tarte concealer with translucent powder to set. It Cosmetics bronzer to sculpt and shape her face with MAC Blushbaby to give that perfect flush color. Lorac pro eye-shadow palette to naturally define her eyes with Benefit mascara to finish them off. MAC Strawberry blonde brow pencil to shape those great brows!”

How To Steal Cheryl Blossom's Makeup Look

Madelaine’s Makeup Favourites

When it comes to her real life Madelaine isn’t exactly the same as her alter ego, Cheryl. “I’m almost the complete opposite with my beauty routine. My go-to lipstick is a baby mauve from Urban Decay. I don’t really wear eyeshadow. I’m pretty much always about my lashes and my lips and then I let the rest of it do its own thing. Cheryl’s about everything. Every makeup thing that you could think of, Cheryl has it on her face.”

She’s also after getting in on the contouring trend after initially struggling to find the right shades to  complement her fiery hair and subtly highlight her super fair complexion. “I started contouring about a year ago and realized that the best shades for redheads are almost, I want to say, a gray brown,” Madelaine says. Lately, her favorite contouring product is the dual-sided Maybelline Facestudio Master Contour V-Shape Duo Stick in Light. “It just blends to my skin perfectly,” she adds. “I love cream contour.”

Then Madelaine blends in warm bronzer to avoid any harsh looking lines of contour on her face. The trick to finding a natural-looking and non-jarring, bronzer for an almost translucent complexion? Use a highlighter, like The Balm Mary Lou Manizer Highlighter, instead.

Madelaine’s Skincare Routine

Of course, Medelaine recognises the importance of taking care of your skin underneath all that makeup, “I have a very strict skincare regimen that I do every day,” she says. She cleanses twice a day with Avene Cold Cream Ultra Rich Soap-Free Cleansing Gel and then uses Avène Skin Recovery Cream before bed to moisturize.

Obviously, protecting her easily burned skin from sun damage is also crucial. “We have to have sunscreen on every single day,” says Madelaine. So she slathers on EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 4o. “Every single day, no matter where I’m going,” she adds.

To prevent pesky blemishes Madelaine uses prescription acne treatment Acanya every other night and an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) mask twice a week (Missy loves  The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution). But for “whenever you do get that blemish that’s so horrible and you hate it and you want to die because it’s so cringe-y” (we’ve been there!), she turns to Peter Thomas Roth Acne-Clear Invisible Dots for spot treatments. “You can’t see them, so I walk around with them in public on my face,” Madelaine laughs.

And there you have it. See you in line for Lime Crime?

Will you stealing Cheryl Blossom’s makeup look?
