How To Steal Cheryl Blossom’s Makeup Look

Team Missy

We at Missy love beauty. We also love some Netflix. So Riverdale ticks all the boxes for us. If you’ve been following along with all the drama chances are you’ve been left admiring Cheryl Blossom’s glamorous look. Well, us too!

We were just dying to find out how to steal Cheryl Blossom’s makeup look. After a bit of digging around we found out everything you need to know. And not only have we found out the exact colour lipstick Cheryl wears, but we also found out what actress Madelaine Putsch‘s beauty favourites are as well.

Cheryl’s Go To Lipstick

Speaking to Teen Vogue Madelaine said “When I was younger, I used to be very afraid of doing anything out there with my makeup because I felt like my hair was such a big strong piece,” Madelaine says. “And then I learned from this show, specifically, that you can really use brighter colors to play up your hair, as well. I used to never wear red.”

To achieve Cheryl Blossom’s makeup look a bold lip is necessary. Cheryl’s sports a signature red lip, courtesy of Lime Crime’s Matte Velvetine in Red Velvet. Like most of us Madelaine loves a good liquid matte formula “I’m obsessed with Lime Crime because it doesn’t rub off,”  she says. To achieve a glossier, poutier lip, she just swipes a layer of Nivea chapstick on top.

“When we need something glossier to transfer onto something — or someone,” she laughs. “We’re on the CW. Of course there’s going to be some of that!”

For Cheryl’s more low-key makeup looks she either wears another Lime Crime Matte Velvetine in Riot, a reddish-brown, or the much hyped Spice lipliner by MAC. “I just line the lip, put a little on my lip and add a little gloss and it’s good to go,” she says. “It’s my actual natural lip color.”

Madeleine also had a confession to make about when it comes to applying her signature pout,”I’m super weird about my lips,” she says. “I actually don’t let makeup artists do my lipstick. I know my own lip line and I don’t want my lips to look strange on camera. I’m very particular about my lips.”

Cheryl Blossom’s Other Makeup

“Cheryl is a masterpiece!”  says Riverdale’s lead makeup artist, Erin Mackenzie. “We use an array of products to create her signature look, starting with NARS foundation and Tarte concealer with translucent powder to set. It Cosmetics bronzer to sculpt and shape her face with MAC Blushbaby to give that perfect flush color. Lorac pro eye-shadow palette to naturally define her eyes with Benefit mascara to finish them off. MAC Strawberry blonde brow pencil to shape those great brows!”

Madelaine’s Makeup Favourites

When it comes to her real life Madelaine isn’t exactly the same as her alter ego, Cheryl. “I’m almost the complete opposite with my beauty routine. My go-to lipstick is a baby mauve from Urban Decay. I don’t really wear eyeshadow. I’m pretty much always about my lashes and my lips and then I let the rest of it do its own thing. Cheryl’s about everything. Every makeup thing that you could think of, Cheryl has it on her face.”

She’s also after getting in on the contouring trend after initially struggling to find the right shades to  complement her fiery hair and subtly highlight her super fair complexion. “I started contouring about a year ago and realized that the best shades for redheads are almost, I want to say, a gray brown,” Madelaine says. Lately, her favorite contouring product is the dual-sided Maybelline Facestudio Master Contour V-Shape Duo Stick in Light. “It just blends to my skin perfectly,” she adds. “I love cream contour.”

Then Madelaine blends in warm bronzer to avoid any harsh looking lines of contour on her face. The trick to finding a natural-looking and non-jarring, bronzer for an almost translucent complexion? Use a highlighter, like The Balm Mary Lou Manizer Highlighter, instead.

Madelaine’s Skincare Routine

Of course, Madelaine recognises the importance of taking care of your skin underneath all that makeup, “I have a very strict skincare regimen that I do every day,” she says. She cleanses twice a day with Avene Cold Cream Ultra Rich Soap-Free Cleansing Gel and then uses Avène Skin Recovery Cream before bed to moisturize.

Obviously, protecting her easily burned skin from sun damage is also crucial. “We have to have sunscreen on every single day,” says Madelaine. So she slathers on EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 4o. “Every single day, no matter where I’m going,” she adds.

To prevent pesky blemishes Madelaine uses prescription acne treatment Acanya every other night and an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) mask twice a week (Missy loves  The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution). But for “whenever you do get that blemish that’s so horrible and you hate it and you want to die because it’s so cringe-y” (we’ve been there!), she turns to Peter Thomas Roth Acne-Clear Invisible Dots for spot treatments. “You can’t see them, so I walk around with them in public on my face,” Madelaine laughs.

And there you have it. See you in line for Lime Crime?
