Ever since Chilling Adventures of Sabrina debuted in 2018 we’ve been filled with anticipation at the mere thought of a crossover with Riverdale.
We’ve been keeping an ear out for even a whisper of a development and in December we came across a curious article that seemed to “confirm” that a Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina crossover event was coming on the February 5th episode of Riverdale. BUT we couldn’t find a press-release from Netflix or anything else about a crossover happening; nothing, nada. Which led us to believe it had all been a fevered dream.
BUT now we have some sort of news…
We ARE getting a Riverdale crossover, but it's not the one we were anticipating
It now seems there was a half-truth in the original story; Riverdale will have a crossover episode on February 5th, but it’s with the new show Katy Keene; the actual spin-off show from Riverdale staring Josie set 5 years in the future.
In the episode, Veronica (Camila Mendes) visits New York City for a college interview. She also meets up with her old friend, Katy Keene (Lucy Hale). And the two go on a shopping spree together.
The episode is supposed to introduce us to the world of Katy Keene and establish it as part of the Riverdale universe.
It’s not the worst news, but not the Riverdale crossover we were hoping for.
Sabrina might still be heading for Riverdale?
Well, there still might be *something* exciting happening with Sabrina and Riverdale.
TV Line‘s Michael Ausiello made some predictions about CAOS Part 3, and he thinks Riverdale may have a role in the first episode. In his recurring column, “Ask Ausiello,” he responded to a fan who still wants a Sabrina/Riverdale crossover.
He said, “I wouldn’t expect to see the teenage witch rubbing elbows with Betty and Veronica anytime soon, but you’ll be happy to know that the town of Riverdale plays a very specific role in an upcoming episode of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s third part, which arrives in all its eight-episode glory on Friday, Jan. 24.”
Sabrina and Riverdale have strong ties
Like we told you before, although the shows air on different networks and have very different tones, both series share a creator and showrunner, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Plus, both series also exist in the Archie comics universe, so some sort of crossover seems impossible to avoid.
And both the cast of Sabrina and Riverdale are friends IRL!
We definitely want to see both shows collide, but an actual crossover seems to be a pipe dream, at the moment. Cue sad faces.
