20 Things To Do Before Summer Ends
And just like that, summer 2023 is slowly slipping away. Be but be warned, it will be gone in the blink of an eye!
Before the sun sets on summer 2023 in Ireland here’s 20 things to do this summer to make sure that you have the best time ever…
1.Volunteer
Spending some time giving back is definitely the most worthwhile way to spend the holiday. Not only do you get to do something great for someone else, it’s also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and to have new experiences. There are lots of organisations nationwide that need a helping hand.
See if your local animal shelter needs any volunteers (they usually do!) You could also see if there are any groups local to you doing things to help the environment, like cleanups.
Or even go as far as organising a fundraiser to raise money for a local charity!
2. Jazz your bedroom
There’s no need to call in Dermot Bannon or win the lotto to give your bedroom a new lease of life; simple things like moving the furniture around can make all of the difference. Check out our Tips For Redecorating your bedroom on a budget.
Host A Movie Night
Summer is the perfect time to host a movie night with friends. If you have a projector your could even set up an outdoor cinema.

Here’s everything that you need to know about getting your drivers license in Ireland.
5. Binge-watch an entire TV show
This one comes with a caution; obvs don’t spend your whole summer watching TV, but do allow yourself to indulge a bit without the guilt of homework hanging over you.
Check out our TV section for lots of ideas about what to watch!
6. Take some time to work on your mental health
Taking some time to work on your mental health is nothing to be ashamed about, in fact it really should be encouraged.
7. Take up a new sport/hobby
Summer provides a great chance to try something new. It doesn’t have to be anything mental or even cost a lot of money. Why not try learning calligraphy online? Or doing some new workouts on YouTube? You could even try challenge yourself to complete the Couch to 5K.
8. Have an at-home pamper day with the girls
Summer can be a bit lonely, so make an effort to plan days in advance, A great and relatively cheap way to have a fun, girly day is to have your besties over for a pamper day. Hit up Penneys for some sheet-masks, dig out all of your nail polishes and have some fun relaxing and chatting with your friends.
9. Re-organise your wardrobe
If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably been meaning to get around to this for ages, making it the perfect summer task! No only is it great to have a nice and tidy wardrobe, you can also take a good look at what you actually have. Like we said in our piece about Sustainable Fashion, see if you can up-cycle any of your clothes. And if you can’t…
10. …Donate old clothes
If you don’t love something anymore, chances are someone else will. Bring all of your old clothes to a charity shop. While you’re there you could see if they need any volunteers like we said above, it’s a greta way to get a bit of retail experience under your belt too!
11. Day Trip
No need to hop onto Skyscanner or anything, but see if the parental unit would sign off on a little day trip to somewhere that you haven’t been before. There are literally thousands of options near and far in Ireland.
12. Reconnect with someone you’ve lost touch with
Friendships can be tough, and sometimes it can be easy to accidentally lose touch with someone. Re-connect with someone who you haven’t seen in a while. You’ll be glad that you did.
13. Help Out At Home
Take a more proactive role in the housekeeping this summer and we promise you’ll earn a lot of bonus points with your parents. It’s just a sound thing to do anyway.
14. Get A New Hair Cut
Isn’t it the teen movie dream to saunter into school on the first day to have people ohh and ahh about unreal you look? Make that happen with a shiny new hair look. If you’ve been contemplating a “lob” go for it, it’s only hair and it will grow back!
15. Get A Head Start On School
Sorry, we know this is boring AF and not what you want to be doing on your summer holiday, but if there’s a part of school that you’re struggling with take some time over the summer to work on it without the usual pressure of school. You’ll be so glad that you did come September.
16. Create A Vision Board
We were totally influenced by Veronica’s article on The Law of Attraction and why you should create a vision board. So, why not take some time to create your own vision board and see what happens?
17. Have A Picnic
Having a picnic is such a fun alternative to going out for lunch. Organise a small group of friends and have everyone bring something. Grab some blankets and you’re all set.
18. Have A Social Media Detox
Keep your social media usage in check this summer. It’s so easy to sit there and scroll on social media and feel like your summer and life is . The only way to counteract that is to get off social media and start making an awesome summer for yourself.
Try limit your time on your phone as much as possible and even better; try turning your mobile off completely for periods of time. Especially do this if you’re lucky enough to be on a family holiday, Instagram will still be there when you get back.
19. Bake Something
Find a recipe on Pinterest and make it your signature baking dish.
20. Make A Summer Memory Book
Summer is what you make it, so make yours fun! Take lots of pictures and print them out – it’s surprisingly cheap to do! Or dig out that Instax camera that you just had to have, but is now gathering dust.
Get a cheap photo album in a Euroshop, decorate it, write funny quotes from your friends in it, stick receipts from the cinema in it. Make it fun so that you can look back on it in 6 months, 6 years or 60 years and remember those funny, random moments – they’re always the best!
