A Lookback At Princess Diana’s Best Looks!
Season 4 of The Crown has just been released on Netflix and the star of this seasons narrative is everyone’s favourite, Princess Diana.
While the narrative of this season is fixated with Charles’ and Diana’s’ turbulent marriage it is also a reminder of what a true fashion icon Diana was, many of her looks would still be considered on trend in 2020!
Here is a look back at some of Diana’s best looks over the years..you may even recognise one or two outfits from the series!
Yellow Overalls
Whether casual or glammed up Diana always looked amazing and these yellow dungarees from a polo match when she was just a teen showcases just that. This look is featured on the show during one of Diana’s (played by Emma Corinn) first encounters with Prince Charles.
The Honeymoon Tweed suit
Another outfit that was featured on The Crown was this fabulous tweed suit. Diana looked very sophisticated in this suit during a photo op on her honeymoon with Prince Charles at Balmoral Castle, Scotland.
Catherine Walker Suit
Another sophisticated look donned by Lady Di. Diana wore this pinstripe dress suit by designer Catherine Walker while visiting a naval base during a tour of Italy in 1985.
Gingham Pants
Similar to the pants worn by Diana in that epic roller skating scene in Buckingham palace in The Crown, Diana wore these pink gingham pants to a summer polo match and they are definitely a look that would still look good today!
The Travolta Dress
This dress was made famous by Diana during a visit to the White House in 1985. It is famously called “The John Travolta Dress” as during this visit Diana took to the dance floor with Travolta to dance to the Saturday night fever soundtrack. The stunning velvet black ball gown that Diana paired with her famous pearl necklace was designed by Victor Edelstein.
The Elvis Dress
Travolta wasn’t the only celebrity lucky enough to have a Diana fashion piece nick-named after him. Elvis Presly also received the honour in 1989 when Diana wore this gleaming white gown by Catherine Walker to the British Fashion Awards. She wore it a second time on a trip to Hong Kong.
The oversized hoodie and bicycle shorts
Di was certainly trendy with her casual gear. On days when she wasn’t wearing expensive ball gowns she was known for rocking an oversized hoodie and a pair of bicycle shorts, a look that’s still worn in 2020!
