101 Beauty Tips And Tricks: Part Three

We are back with part three of our 101 Beauty Tips And Tricks series. Don’t forget to catch up on Part one! and Part 2!

Face Masks

51. Cleanse Before You Cover

You wouldn’t polish a dirty floor and neither should you put a mask on a dirty face. You’ll only get the full benefits if you apply the mask to cleaned skin, which will allow your face to absorb more of the ingredients in the mask. Missy loves Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser.

52. Mud, Glorious Mud

Oily skin responds well to clay or mud-based masks, but never use them on dry skin as they are too harsh. When the mask is removed surface dirt oil and dead skin cells adhere to the clay and are rinsed away with the mask. If you suffer from an oily T-zone but dry cheeks, apply the mud mask only in the T-zone area and use a gentle moisturising mask for the cheeks. Missy loves L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Mask Multi-Masking Kit.

53. Post-Mask Moisture Boost

Always moisturised directly after using a mask, unless the mask is a leave-on product and you are instructed to rub off the residue. With dead skin cells sloughed off and pores unclogged, your moisturiser will sink in more deeply and have greater penetrating results. Missy loves First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturiser.

54. Peak A Pout

Instead of completely outlining the lips for a bigger pout just pencil in the cupid’s bow, the centre of the bottom lip and the corners of the mouth with a natural shade. This will enhance the shape of your lips, bringing attention to the edges and going the a fuller appearance. Missy loves Rimmel Exaggerate Lipliner.

54. Afraid Of The Dark

Don’t use a lipliner much darker than your lipstick to define your lips.

54. Keep Lipstick Off Your Teeth!

Once you’ve applied your lipstick, put your forefinger in your mouth and then (just like a lollipop) slowly pull it out. All the lipstick that would have ended up on your teeth will have been successfully removed and you will be able to smile with security.

55. Make Do And Blend

If you can’t find the right shade, mix it up by using your existing lipsticks to create new colours. Simply blend the colours onto the back of your hand with a lip brush and apply directly to your lips.

56. Be A Good Chap

Use a Chapstick as a lip primer under colour. The waxiness smooths the lip surface, fills in tiny lines and will help hold the colour for longer. This is particularly useful under matt colours, which can add to the appearance of dryness. Missy loves Burt’s Bees Honey Lip Balm.

57. Fingertip Tester

When choosing a lipstick never apply the tester directly to your lips. For hygiene reasons the best place to test is your fingertips where the colour and texture of skin is closest to yours.

58. Be A Gloss Leader

Create fullness with a spot of gloss in the middle of the mouth, particularly on the upper lips which will appear fuller as a result.

59. Get Flawless Colour

To achieve the exact colour of the lipstick on your lips apply a nude lip pencil to your lips before the lipstick. It will also help keep the lipstick in place for longer and reduce the chances of smudging.

60. Wear Light Layers

Three or four coats of thinly applied mascara are more alluring and natural looking than one or two clumsy applications. When it comes to eyelashes, the thinner the better! Missy loves Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara.

61. Go Wide

Concentrate mascara application on the outside of the eye – this will help to widen eyes and bring attention to the curved edges, making them look so much better.

62. Condition You Eyelashes

Rub Vaseline into eyelashes overnight. This will help keep your lashes conditioned and prevent any breakage of the ends. Use the original one, for obvious reasons!

63. Get The Wiggles

When applying mascara, wiggle your wand on the base of the lashes. It’s the mascara near the roots – not the tips – that gives the illusion of length and thickness.

64. Monogamous Mascara

Never share mascara – just don’t do it! This is the most common way to pass on eye infections such as conjunctivitis. Eww!

65. Curl Before You Coat

Curl your lashes before you apply mascara, then the roots will be easier to get at and you can ensure a more effective, all-over colouring of colour. It will also open up your eyes.

Tools Of The Trade

66. Blend It Well

Everyone needs a blending brush – this should be different from the one you use to apply your eyeshadow, which gets covered in the product. Blending brushes should be soft and clean, and used to give make and more natural look. Miss moves MAC 224 Blending brush, but Penneys do an amazing dupe in a doublepack for €4!

67. Wash Throughly

Wash your makeup brushes frequently to keep them free and bacteria-free. If someone else uses your brushes was them throughly before you use them again or you risk introducing bacteria into your makeup. Missy loves Boots Solid Makeup Brush Cleanser.

Home Spa

68. Boost Bathing With Epsom

When Epsom salts (aka magnesium sulphate) are absorbed through the skin in a bath, they help to draw toxins from the body, reduce swelling and relax muscles as the skin cools afterwards. Mix a handful of Epsom salts with a handful of sea salt and a splash or bath oil. You can buy Epsom salt in your local health shop.

67. Copy Cleopatra

Cleopatra was famous for her smooth skin and milk baths. Follow her beauty secret by adding 3 cups of powdered milk or fresh milk to a warm bath. The lactic acid in the milk will soften and gently exfoliate skin.

68. Bubble Bath

Many bubble baths and foams can be extremely drying, so if you are planning to have a long soak make sure the formula includes softening oils in the ingredients. Missy loves Laura Mercier Almond Coconut Milk Honey Bath.

69. Give Yourself The Brush-Off

Improving skin circulation – by body brushing, scrubbing and massage – will even-out skin tone and boost oxygenation of the cells. leading to fresher, smoother glowing skin. Missy loves Botanics Long Handled Body Brush.

70. End The Day With Lavender

Lavender oil is skin-soothing, can help alleviate aches and pains, and is a marvellous sleeping aid. Try adding five or six drops of the essential oil into a warm bath before bed to ensure you get your beauty sleep.

71. Maximise Nail Growth

To stimulate nail growth, massage the base of the nails with cuticle oil several times a day. This will stimulate and nourish the nail bed, encouraging nail growth. Missy loves Sally Hansen Vitamin E & Cuticle Oil.

72. File First

For at-home manicures, file first before you remove old nail varnish. The polish keeps the nail protected and if you use a remover first, the nail will be weakened.

73. Do The Dip Tip

To speed up nail varnish drying, run nails under cold water for ten minutes to help varnish form a hard, knock-free coating in no time.

74. Hard As Nails

For weak or brittle nails, apply a nail straightener every day for a week, then remove and leave the nails to rest for a few days before repeating for another week, if necessary. Missy loves OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener.

75. Nice Girls Don’t Bite

To help you stop biting your nails visit a nail bar. When your nails are nicely done, you’re less likely to bite them. A sure-fire way to stop biting your nails is to invest in a set of falsies. Your teeth won’t like the feel of the acrylic nail fibres and it will help you kick the habit. Plus your nails will look great!

Next week we’ll have the fourth and final part in the series, and it’s all about hair!!

101 Beauty Tips And Tricks: Part Two

We are back with part two of our 101 Little Beauty Miracles series. Don’t forget to catch up on part one!

In today’s post we’re sharing tips to get the base best, perfect brows and some tricks on how to apply blush, eyeliner and eyeshadow.

Base-ic Rights

26. Damp It Up

For even coverage apply foundation with a slightly damp sponge to spread the base around your face. We love the Beauty Blender!

27. Tone Up

Always choose a foundation that blends with your natural skin tone and never try to counteract your skin colour with makeup.

28. Avoid The Grey For Dark Skins

Too many foundations for dark and black skins are chalky and ashen. To find the right she, look for rich colours in a sheer formulation that will allow your natural skin colour to shine through, while evening out pigmentation. Very matt formulas are the worst culprits for a greyish cast.

29. Make Friends With Your Freckles

Sheer foundation is best for freckled skin, which can look unnatural if none of the freckles are allowed to show through. Use a concealer first, then aim for the natural look. Freckles are beautiful.

30. Blend, Blend, Blend

After you have applied your foundation, make sure you spend a few minutes blending it into your jaw line, hairline and slightly onto your neck. Spend twice as long on your foundation as you do on any other element of your makeup.

31. Take The Tint

Eyebrows should frame your face and eyes, but they may struggle to do this is they are too pale. Instead of filling them in with powder think about tinting them. This can be done in salon or at home. We love Eylure Pro-Brow Dybrow.

32. Powder And Peak

Powders give a soft effect and need minimal blending. To tighten the arch, apply an extra bit of colour at the highest peak to make it stand out. We love Benefit Brow Zings.

33. Brown Is The New Black

For brunettes, part from those with really dark hair, black can appear too harsh for eyebrows. Instead choose a dark brown pencil which will blend more naturally. We love Nyx Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil.

34. Go To A Professional

Take the easy route to perfect eyebrows by having your brows shaped by a beautician the first time you try re-shaping. All you then have to do is keep the lines she’s created for you, which takes much less tome and risk!

35. Be A Peach Babe

Choose soft natural pinks, beiges and tawny peaches for daytime. These will blend with the tones in natural daylight and avoid making you look overdone. We love Benefit Sugarbomb.

36. Leave The Cream To The Cat

If your skin is oily, sweet clear of cream blushers, which can give cheeks a shiny look and make skin elsewhere on the face appear oiler as a result.

37. Give Yourself A Smile

To make blusher pay, smile into the mirror to find the apples of your cheeks, then brush the colour there in wide, sweeping movements for a natural, cheeky glow.

Conceal It

38. Don’t Go Too Light

The most common mistake women make when applying concealer is choosing a colour that is too light. This merely achieves the opposite effect by actually highlighting the problem, especially if you’re using it to cover under-eye circles.

39. Cover Your Eyes

If you’re covering up under-eye circles, don’t just put the concealer under the eye, which can give you a ‘striped’ look. Instead, cover the whole eye area and set with a light dusting of powder.

40. Don’t Be Blunt

Sharpen your eye pencil every time you use it. This prevents eye bacteria building up on the round, blunt, end which could spread to other parts of your eyes. It will also help you to achieve high-definition as blunt ends are much harder to control.

41. Modernise Your Eyes

Instead of using eyeliner for daily make-up, use powder eyeshadow applied with a very narrow brush to give a smokey, modern appearance to the edge of eyes. Smudge further if necessary with a larger brush. Alternatively, use the powder wet for a shaper line of colour.

42. Widen With White

To give your eyes the appearance of being wider set, line the inside of the bottom rim of your eyes with a soft white or nude eyeliner pencil. This is also great for tired eyes and after flying. We love Rimmel Scandal Eyes WTP Liner Nude.

43. It’s Cool To Be Sharp

Eyeliners will sharpen better after a few hours in the fridge – the cold makes the ends firmer and less prone to stickiness. Let them warm up to room temperature before you use them or they’ll be too hard.

44. Keep Liquid Thin

Liquid eyeliners are great for a defined evening look, but don’t extend the line beyond the natural corner of the eye and keep it thin for the most glamorous look. If you have trouble keeping steady, try making three dashes – at the inner, middle and outer corners, then joining them up. We love Nyx Professional Makeup That’s The Point Eyeliner.

45. Lighten Your Inner Corners

Often the inner corner of your eye, near the nose, is the darkest part and can drag down your whole face. If you use a slightly lighter shadow or eye pencil on this area, it will bring it out of the dark and help your eyes look bigger too.

46. Be A One-Trick Wonder

As a general rule, let your eyes or your lips do the talking – not both. This doesn’t mean neglecting either area, just plumps for a more natural look for one and use stronger make-up on the other.

47. Creams Increase Creases

Lightly powder lids before eyeshadow to keep them crease-proof longer. If you;re prone to creasing, avoid cream colours in favour of silky powders.

48. Long May It Last

If you want your eyeshadows to last all day, primer your eyelids with a thin layer of foundation before applying your eye colour. If you forego shadow for a bare look, it will also help your eyelids blend in with the skin tone on the rest of your face. In this case use some mascara to add a little bit of definition.

49. Line Up The Brown

For paler skins, light browns and taupe eyeliners work best because they enhance the natural tones of the eye without overpowering the surrounding skin.

50. Don’t Overdo The Shimmer

Be careful with shimmy products, especially on your eyelids, as they tend to collect in the creases. They are best left for the evening, where the won’t have to hold the look for as long.

Check back next week for tips on face masks, lips, tools of the trade and hair care tricks.

10 Beauty Hacks You Need To Know About

A little side note before we begin: this was originally meant to be all in one part, but the article became pretty mammoth. We didn’t want to shorten it down because we thought it contained some really great little nuggets of information. So, we’ve split it up into 4 parts. Came back next week for tips on how to get the best base, eyeshadow tips and tricks, face masks and hair care tricks.

In our first post we have tips on cleansing, miracle ingredients, DIY exfoliators and how to solve a range of skin problems. Get ready to up your beauty routine!

Cleansing and Care

1. Beware of over cleansing

Over-cleansing is a major cause of sensitive skin, as it strips the skin’s under layers of its natural protective properties. Make sure that you use an cleanse thats right for your skin type and don’t over do it. We love Glosser Milky Jelly Cleanser.

2. Steam Away Impurities

For a quick, deep cleanse, pour boiling water into a bowl with lemon juice and rose petals and hold your face over the bowl, covering your head with a towel. The steam will invigorate you, aid in respiration, and help lessen blackheads. Cleanse afterwards and follow with a cool-water rinse to close pores.

3. Go Large

Don’t forget the skin on your neck when it comes to cleansing and moisturising.

4. Sleep Clean

It’s a tale as old as time, but never go to bed with your makeup on. It prevents the skin from shedding and breathing which will lead to blemishes and/or blackheads to appear.

5. Assess To Cleanse Best

Your first step in the morning should be to take a good look in the mirror. Note any dry patches on the checks or oiliness in the T-zone. Hormones, seasons, environment and diet can all impact on your skin. You can then adjust your routine accordingly.

6.Keep Your Hair Off The Skin

Keep your hair clean and off the face to avoid making skin greasy, especially overnight when it can rub against skin as you sleep and cause breakouts.

Cosmeceuticals and Miracle Ingredients

7. C The Difference

Vitamin C has a brightening effect on skin an it helps boost circulation and collagen production, which means skin looks great. Vitamin C is found in high levels in citrus fruits, berries and kiwi, but also in beauty products. We love First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Ginger & Turmeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask.

8.Reduce Redness with BHAs

BHAs, beta-hydroxy acids that include salicylic acid help shed excess skin cells with the chemical sloughing effect and they are also anti-inflammatories, which male skin appear less red and inflamed. They can also treat acne. We love The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution and AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution.

9. Say Hello To Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful ingredient the occurs naturally within our cells and contributes to the structural support of the skin if it soaks into the lower layers. We love NIOD Multi-molecular Hyaluronic Complex.

10. Latch Onto Lactic Acid

Lactic Acid is a wonderful ingredient for extra moistirization because it helps the skin hold onto the moisture that’s being added through creams and lotions. We love The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5 + HA 2 or Sunday Riley Modern Skincare Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment.

11. Give Skin A Feast

Skin is the last organ to get the benefits of the good things you eat, so often there’s precious little nourish, eat left, even if your diet is fantastic. Choose face treatments high in essential; minerals such ac calcium, magnesium and zinc to give it a boost.

12. C For Yourself

Vitamin C is a natural skin protector, necessary for the formation of collagen. As an antioxidant is destroys harmful free-radicals in the body caused by pollution, stress and the bad diet. Free radicals attack the skin causing premature raging, so vitamin C in creams and diet is a must.

13. Hands Off Oily Skin

Touching, stroking and facial massage stimulates the skin’s oil glands to produce more sebum, which is the last thing oily skin needs.

Cream & Serums

14. Use Less Than You Think

Don’t slather on more product in the belief that it will work better. Many good products are highly concentrated and only designed to be used in very small amounts.

15. Night-Time Beauty

Beauty sleep is not a myth. While you sleep, your skin regenerates itself, which is why night creams are such a good ideas. Make sure that you go to bed hydrated so the skin gets a chance to heal itself.

16. Do It Daily With Light Moisturizing

Every skin type needs a daily moisturiser, so now which one is suitable for you. Lightweight gels and simple moisturisers are good for young and sensitive skins. We love First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel Moisturiser.

Exfoliators & Scrubs

17. Exfoliate For Exceptional Skin

If left on the body, dead skin cells flake, dry and peel quickly, so the best way to keep skin looking smooth and evenly coloured is to scrub away those dead cells with a scrub. We love Soap & Glory Scrub ‘Em and Leave ‘Em Body Buff.

18. Make Your Own

For a super-smoothing skin exfoliant, massage a handful of Epsom salts with a tablespoon of olive oil over wet skin to cleanse, exfoliate and soften the rough spots.

19. Tingle Away

Generally, tingling after exfoliation means you’ve used too harsh a product, but it is natural to tingle for up to 15 minutes after using alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids to exfoliate because of their chemical effect.

20. Exfoliate With Care

Don’t be tempted to rub too hard or use a too grainy exfoliant, especially on your face. Use an acid instead as scrubs can be too tough and the delicate skin. Pixi Glow Tonic is a great one that can be used daily.

21. Don’t Mix Face And Body

Don’t be tempted to use the body exfoliators on the facial skin, because products designed for the body are likely to be harsher and could be too abrasive for your face, resulting in irritation.

Skin Problems

22. Drier Than Dust

For skin tightness, cracking and flaking, choose a cream cleanser rather than a soap-based one and never use drying toners. We love Pixi Rose Cream Cleanser.

23. Use Less On Eczema

When it comes to covering sensitive skin condition such as eczema, less is defiantly more. Use too much powder or base and you risk highlighting the dryness and uneven texture.

24. Keep Clean To Arrest Acne Spread

After using brushes or concealer sticks to cover up blemishes or spots, always wash them well to avoid re-infection when you use them again. Or use cotton buds, which are disposable. Also keep your hands away from your face and pay particular attention to habits like rubbing temples or around the mouth, which you may do subconsciously.

25. Harsh Products Can Harm

If you suffer from rosacea, you should at all times avoid harsh soaps because not only can they make the symptoms worse, they also dry out skin making it harder to treat and cover.

Is Makeup Revolution Concealer Worth The Hype?

We’re always curious to try new makeup. Even more so when we hear that a new product is a dupe for a highly popular product. So, after hearing lots of talk about Conceal and Define we wondered, is Makeup Revolution Concealer worth the hype?

First, Conceal and Define Concealer is a bit tricky to get. I spotted some in Superdrug BUT the shade selection was pretty awful because the more popular colours sold like hot cakes. So, I ordered it directly from the Makeup Revolution website. The downside to that was delivery took just over a week and I was charged €6 for shipping to Ireland. Cue sad face. Now you can get Free Shipping on orders over €40. I chose to pay the shipping because I’m all about what we actually need these days.

Next, shade section is excellent. There are 18 to choose from. I chose the two lightest shades because I’m a very pale redhead. I got C1 for under my eyes and C2 to cover blemishes.

Now for my thoughts on the actual product. I’m not sure, you guys. The coverage is very good, but I don’t think I like it for under my eyes. It’s a bit too heavy for my liking. I have dark pigment in the corner of my eyes and I am struggling to find something that covers it without being too heavy. I found that it sat into lines under my eyes that I didn’t even know I had! Maybe I just need to get a good eye cream now that I am a lady of a certain age (26!).

I usually apply my concealer with a Real Techniques Setting Brush but I found that the Conceal and Define Concealer applied better with a Beauty Blender. Ironically I’m not usually a fan of Beauty Blenders – who has the time for all that “bouncing”?! I just don’t think that the brush blended it very well. Using the Beauty Blender made such a different.

I do love the doe-foot applicator though. One swipe is more than enough for me. I know some people like doing a triangle of concealer under their eyes, but I just find that too much for me. I also love the packaging. It is very luxe and so expensive looking for €4.98.

A lot of people are talking about Conceal and Define as a dupe for the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, but I really couldn’t comment on that. I’ve wanted to try Shape Tape for ages, but I just could never justify the €35 price tag attached to it. FYI you can get Tarte at very responsible prices on QVCUK and they deliver to Ireland.

In all I’m not sure about Conceal and Define just because of how it sits into the fine lines around my eyes. Seriously those lines that I’ve just noticed are freaking me out!!! Otherwise I really like it. It applies well and stays put all day. The coverage is also very good. I think it would be great at covering up spots or blemishes. And the price point is just so good. I definitely think it’s worth your €4.98.

I’m going to stick with it and see how I get on with it once I get an eye cream. I think the famed Collection 2000 Concealer might have some serious competition.

This was my first purchase from Makeup Revolution (I know! And I call myself a beauty editor!) but I would be interested to give some other bits and pieces a go. Let me know what your favourites are.

How To Steal Saoirse Ronan’s Makeup Look

We told you that Lady Bird was going to be a big deal this year! And rightly so. It’s just a nice movie. And we think the world could definitely do with more nice.

Anyway bask to Saoirse. She’s been doing the rounds on all the big red carpets this season because she’s been nominated so much for Lady Bird! Yay! Last night she stepped out in London for the BAFTA Awards and we were just obsessed with her whole look. Sadly, we cannot afford her fabulous Chanel dress BUT her makeup is so much more affordable.

We stalked her makeup artist, Karen Alder, and found out all the products that she used. You’re welcome! It turns out Saoirse is a big fan of Glossier, just like us.  Saoirse’s makeup artist used Cloud Paint in Puff, Boy Brow in Brown, and Haloscope in Quartz – all by Glossier. They also kept their Chanel game strong by using a number of products from the classic brand.

The idea was for fresh, glowy skin with romantic touches of pink – not at all like the heavy makeup looks that we’re used to seeing! Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Adler said, “I can’t stand seeing all these girls walking down the street looking like they’ve got sideburns of contour. I want to show that you can bring structure to the face without contouring.”

Here’s the full run down of everything that you need to recreate Saoirse Ronan’s makeup look….

The Base

Karen Alder told Bazaar that she used  Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet foundation as a concealer rather than foundation. Karen wanted to make sure that you could actually see Saoirse’s skin. The idea was to accentuate Saoirse’s lovely features instead of hiding them.

Glossier was the go-to when it game to achieving Saoirse’s natural glow. Karen used Haloscope in Quartz as a highlighter and the Glossier Cloud Paint in Puff  to give Saoirse a natural flush.

The Brows

Going further against recent trends Karen also went for a more natural look with her Saoirse’s brows. In addition to highlight, Alder believes your brows (“the coat hangers to your face”) give structure that contouring can’t. She used Glossier’s Boy Brow in Clear and Brown. “I love using two colours, the Clear allowed me to form little carefree tufts in all the right places and where I wanted to add a bit more drama I used the Brown.” The effect was full, beautifully groomed brows with natural-looking separation.

The Eyes

“Pinks and rusty burgundy really brings out the blue of Saorise’s eyes” Alder says, and she first used the Chanel Les 4 Ombres Multi-effect Quadra Eyeshadow in #272 to create a seamless, effortless wash of colour. “With a wet brush, I swirled the soft pink and silver in a painterly way around her eyes and then crushed a little of the waterproof Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof eyeliner in #928 along the lash line.” The make-up artist finished with the By Terry Lash-Expert Twist Brush Mascara. “I put the thinnest coat on”, she explained, adding that “we didn’t take the mascara right down to the base of the lashes because it can close the eyes – if you start a little further away it opens them and gives a carefree, natural look.”

The Lips

To tie the whole look together Alder reached for the same product that she used on Saoirse’s cheeks for her lips, “I used Cloud Paint in Puff as a base stain for Saorise’s lips,” which she packed in the actress’ clutch bag for touch-ups. The seamless, sheer and buildable formula actually makes for the perfect lip product because you can finger paint it with ease (no mirror necessary) and it doesn’t dry out. We are definitely going to be trying that out!

Saoirse’s makeup artist gave us a glimpse of her awesome makeup kit the day before on her Insta and we spotted some additional products that we love. Along with there being a whole lot of Chanel, there’s more Glossier in the mix with their Super Glow. As well as the very trusty Bioderma. We also spot the by Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder which we LOVE! And we see the very hyped Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Mask which has us very intrigued with that name!

We also loved Saoirse’s messy braided up-do. To recreate it split your hair into two sections and french braid them – they don’t have to be at all perfect. If your hair is long enough “tie” them together and tuck the ends in and secure them with pins. If your hair is short (like Saoirse’s) just pin them in.

What did you think of Saoirse’s makeup look?

The Best Makeup and Skincare Dupes

We love makeup and skin here at Missy. And when we say love we really mean it. We also love a good bargain. When you mix the two of them together to produce a dupe we become super happy! Here are some of our favourite Makeup and Skincare Dupes…

Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara is a very good dupe for the popular Too Faced Better Than Sex!

The Wet n Wild Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana is EXTREMELY close to the famed Hourglass Powder in Dim Light. It is so pretty! It has a tiny bit more shimmer, but just barely. And it’s under €5, so we don’t even care.

Sources close to Missy tell us that Simple Hydrating Booster is a great and cheaper alternative to Clinique Moisture Surge.

The E.L.F. Gotta Glow Lip Tint is said to not only be a dupe for  Dior Lip Glow but actually better than the original!

We love Glossier, but it’s annoying to get it in Ireland and as we’ve already said, we love a cheaper dupe.  The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1 has very similar ingredients to Glossier’s Super Pure and it’s under €6! Our Editor, Dani, swears by the Ordinary after it cleared up her persistent outbreaks last year. Some of The Ordinary products can be tricky to get because they sell out so regularly. Try ASOS, Cloud 10 Beautyor Cult Beauty.

Another brand that’s difficult to get in Ireland is Anastasia Beverly Hills. Yes, you can order online, but it’s so nice to actually have the option to go into a stop and test things out before you buy them. Fear not though, we have found a great dupe for the immensely popular Brow Wiz. NYX Cosmetics Micro Brow Pencil is just as good, in our opinion.

Penneys (or Primark depending on your location) have really been on top of their beauty game lately. We LOVE their Strobe Creme which is a very good dupe for M.A.C’s Strobe Cream. Apply this under foundation or mix together for a glowly finish. Another M.A.C dupe courtesy of Penneys is their 2 pack of blending brushes. The white one is great for applying eyeshadow, but it’s their black brush that’s giving us serious M.A.C 224 vibes! Did we mention that the pack of 2 brushes is only €4? We’ll definitely be picking up a few packs of these (okay, at least two) because you can never have too many blending brushes!

We’re not sure how Penneys/Primark are getting away with it, but their perfume range is really reminding us of that super luxe perfume that Brown Thomas stock! We’re not mad on the Rose Oud one because it’s so hard to get a rose perfume right and we think Jo Malone nailed it. But the Mandarin and Basil perfume is perfection and smells the exact same as the Jo Malone Lime, Basil and Mandarin.

Speaking of that brand Aldi have also brought out candles that are very similar. The Pomegranate Noir (seriously, HOW are they getting away with it?) smells fab and it only costs €4.99. Aldi have also launched diffusers that smell divine as James Kavanagh would say.

Let us know what your favourite Makeup and Skincare Dupes are!

How To Hide Spots Like A Pro MUA

We already chatted about the 5 Products To Help Fight Off Spots, but now we though we’d talk about the sneaky ways how to hide spots and blemishes. They’re such a confidence killer, but God Bless makeup!

As weird and Wicked as it sounds, green tinted primer is great at dulling down the redness of inflamed spots. NYX Cosmetics Studio Perfect Primer in green or e.l.f. Tone Adjusting Face Primer Neutralising Green are great to have on-hand. A silicone based primer like Benefit’s POREfessional is great as well because it smooths out the skin to give you a more even base to apply foundation.

Speaking of, foundation is definitely one of the key ingredients in helping hide spots. Try going for a medium coverage foundation or something that’s build-able. Don’t dive straight in with the heaviest foundation you can find, looking at you Dream Matte Mousse! Something with a bit of life to it like Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation or NARS Sheer GlowEstee Lauder Double Wear is also a good option if you feel like you need some super coverage. If you’re looking for something a bit more affordable the reliable such as L’Oreal True Match or Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation. Make sure you spend the time and pick the correct shade. Going too dark is only going to draw more attention to the problem that you’re trying to camouflage.

Apply your foundation first with a brush to get a nice, even application all over. About one pump of foundation is enough. Then take another pump of foundation and go back over the areas that you need a bit for coverage on using a slightly damp Beauty Blender. Don’t over do it with the foundation, just lightly apply another layer to the areas that need more.

A big mistake that people make is that they try to use foundation to do most if not all of their spot concealing. Don’t be that person. Concealer got its’ name for a reason. MAC Pro Longwear Concealer is incredible at hiding even the reddest of spots. Lightly buff it in using a Real Techniques Setting Brush. If you feel like you need more apply again. The key is building it up.

You’ve spent a a good amount of time concealing those spots so make sure you’re good work doesn’t go to waste and set your makeup to make sure it lasts all day. Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder is beloved by makeup artists for a reason. We think Penney’s are doing great offerings too with their Banana and Rice Powder. Keep highlighter away from any problem areas so as to not draw more attention to them.

A great way to distract from any area that might be bothering you is to highlight another great feature that you have. Having your eyebrows on fleek or a simple smoky eye is going to make you feel so much better about your skin woes. Having confidence is hard at the best of times, but it’s even harder if your skin is getting you down. Pop on a bright lippy and just go with it. Chances are no one else will give your skin woes a second thought because everyone has their own thing going on.

Penneys New PS…Nudes Collection Looks Amazing!

Penneys Primark PS...Nudes Collection

Penneys have been knocking it out the park lately with their own makeup collection. Gone are the days when Penneys was more miss instead of hit when it came to their makeup. Penneys has become the go-to for some great beauty buys. From their incredible brushes to their super lipliners we are officially all about Penneys own brand, PS, these days. We are very excited about their latest collection, PS…Nudes.

Top Picks

The PS..Nudes Collection really pays homage to a lot of popular trends, as well as not too subtle nods to a few brands. We really love the look of the Bronze Metallic Eye Cream, €2.50, fingers crossed it’s a good dupe for Charlotte Tilbury! Another thing that caught our eye in the collection is The Highlight and Contour Kit ,€8, which includes a highlight and contour stick as well as a brow highlight and a double ended application brush. It’s giving us serious KKW Beauty vibes!

The Lip Kits and 9 Pan Eyeshadow Palettes are very similar to Kylie Cosmetics. There’s a great selection of colours in the Palette that will be great for creating subtle daytime looks as well as a smokey eye. But it’s the 28 Shade Palette for €10 that’s got us really excited. This will probably be the hardest item in the collection to track down. Penneys have been earning rave reviews for their single shade eyeshadows. So, we have high hopes for this offering.

As always Penneys are keeping it super affordable with everything rating from from €2 to €10.

The PS…Nudes Collection will be available in Penneys stores in February.

Head over to our Facebook page for a look at the full PS…Nudes Collection.

The Missy Edit: Festive Beauty

The Missy Edit: Festive Beauty

With Christmas parties and festive gatherings on the horizon we’ve lined up our favourite festive beauty picks to have you ready for any occasion this Holiday Season.

Skin Prep

We’re all about the base. If you want your makeup to look all kinds of awesome it’s important to look after your skin. The Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel is a wonderful staple to combat dull, uneven skin. The pink, turkish delight scented gel transforms into an oil as you massage it onto your skin. The pumpkin enzymes and vitamins work to cleanse, soften and restore leaving you with a radiant and smooth complexion. We love the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate at this time of year. It helps keep your skin nourished during the cold weather. It’s also great at keeping those annoying under the skin spots at bay. Finish off with a moisturiser like Nip+fab Teen Skin Zero Shine Moisturiser which helps to prevent excess oil build-up and breakouts.

Nail Envy

It feels essential to wear as much glitter as possible throughout December. Essie Glitter Nail Polish is probably our favourite! But we also love Barry M Glitter Nail Paint, and Rimmel Glitter High Coverage Nail Polish.

Foundations Matter

A dreamy base is always #goals and we think we finally have the perfect combination down. The BECCA First Light Priming Filter helps to diffuse harsh light to give skin a healthy looking glow. The Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation glides on like a dream, and literally feels like a second skin. It’s perfect if your skin needs just a bit of perfecting. If you struggle with a frustrating issue like acne or rosacea, Magic Foundation will give you perfect looking skin. NYX Professional Makeup Nyx Cosmetics Concealer Wand is a great DUPE for some of the really expensive concealers on the market, but for a fraction of the cost.

Shimmering Shadows

When it comes to festive eyeshadow give us all of the shimmering shades. We love Stila Smudge Pot, a sparkly iridescent colour and Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise Marie Antoinette, a soft shimmery gold. Chances are you probably have some other shimmering shades in your makeup palettes! We’re always reaching for Vermeer in the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette. Finish it off with a flick of liquid liner. As always our favourite is the Collection 2000 Fast Stroke Eye Liner in Black.

Bold Lips

It’s not really Christmas without rocking a bright red lip at least once during December. The Nars Cruella is a gorgeous Christmassy red lip. It’s creamy on application, dries to a matte finish and lasts for hours on the lips. Another choice is the MAYBELLINE Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick in Rebel Red.

Finishing Touches

Lastly for the finishing touches, on cheeks, we’ve pulled out our favourite festive rosy blusher Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush for shimmery, flushed cheeks. Collection 2000 Collection Contour Stick is perfect for all your contouring needs. For highlighter, Peach Smoothie in the Sosu by SJ Highlighter Kit, an iridescent, shimmering golden peach highlighter is our top choice to give you that candlelit, luminous glow.

What are your festive beauty picks this month?

Is Kylie Cosmetics Worth The Hype?

Is Kylie Cosmetics Worth The Hype?

Is Kylie Cosmetics Worth The Hype?I’m pretty much a beauty addict. I just love makeup and I like to give everything new a whirl. But when Kylie Cosmetics came along I wasn’t so sure. Call me a snob when it comes to the Kardashians, but I’m always hesitant to buy into what they’re selling. And yes, I do actually know everything going on with them, sadly. But when they put their name on something I’m just not die hard enough. But my love of trying out makeup kept tempting me over to the dark side. I finally decided that I wanted to know was Kylie Cosmetics worth the hype so I made a purchase a few weeks ago.

The Lip Kits

The Lip Kits were what started it all. When Kylie Jenner first launched her Lip Kits they just couldn’t be kept in stock. Despite hearing mixed reviews about them I decided that I wanted to try them. I picked up Candy K which was one of the hyped colours when Kylie Cosmetics initially launched. I think this is very similar to the infamous M.A.C Velvet Teddy that Kylie used to wear. Velvet Teddy is my favourite lipstick because it’s the perfect nude with dept to it and Candy K looked a bit similar but with more of a mauve hue.

I’m not going to drag this out, I like it Candy K. It goes on very nicely. The lipstick is very fluid and applies easily and then sets. And it lasts. The only thing I really disliked about it was that when I topped it up it felt very heavy and caked-on. The lipliner was probably a game changer initially, but a lot of brands have since jumped on the crayon-like bandwagon. If you’re looking for a dupe Penneys/Primark are currently doing one for €1.50 that is every bit as good as the Kylie one.

The Eyeshadow Palette

The other poplar item is the Kyshadow Palettes. Seriously how lucky is Kylie to have a name that blends so well with makeup products? The Kylie Burgundy Palette is definitely worth your money. Even though it’s a little pricey you’re going to get good use out of it. The colours in the palette are suited for any look, especially at this time of year. The first time I tried it I was surprised by how good the pigments are. I understand what everyone was raving on about, but I never thought it would be that good. There’s lighter tones in it if you want to go for a natural look, but if you’re going for a dramatic look you can add the darker colours and the shimmery sparkles! You can create a lot of different looks with the various colours because they’re so versatile and they blend really well. This is another winner for me.

Is It Worth The Hype?

So, is Kylie Cosmetics worth the hype? I think so. I would be more inclined to make another purchase from Kylie Cosmetics than I would be from Glossier. The only thing that would put me off is the Import Duty which is calculated by what the cost of the goods are. The more you buy the more you will be charged. I think it’s a pity, but I can’t see there being a change in that anytime soon. Shipping was very quick and my order arrived a week after I placed it. Because I bought three items together I got free international shipping but otherwise shipping is quite expensive. You’re left trading off free shipping for Import Duties.  I’ll definitely try another Lip Kit. Maybe 22 or Kirsten. But I think I’ll have to refrain from another eyeshadow palette because even I think I have too many now!
