Everything That You Need To Know About Wicked Part 2

It’s been just under two months since the sensational Broadway musical “Wicked”, was transformed into a movie and hit our cinema screens. But what most people aren’t aware of is that the movie mentioned above, is only the first out of a 2 part duology.
The first Wicked film, which broke the record of being the highest grossing movie based on a Broadway musical, is only actually “Wicked: Part One” and follows the plot of the first act of the musical.
Wicked Part 2, which focuses on the events of the second act of the Broadway musical, is due to come out in cinemas in November 2025 (the longest interval ever, I know!)
Here is everything you need to know about Wicked Part 2…
Wicked Part 2 is entitled “Wicked: For Good”
Wicked Part 2 is called “Wicked: For Good”. The name is inspired by the iconic ballad sung between the two protagonists Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) in the second act of the musical, which Wicked: For Good will focus on.
The Storyline Will NOT Pick Up Straight After Defying Gravity
At the end of “Wicked Part 1,” we watched Elphaba perform “Defying Gravity”, which absolutely took my breath away. Act 2 of the musical opens up with a time jump, there is no confirmation of exactly how long we “dance through life” into the future, but if I was to make an estimate I would say we skip on around five years which is what happens in the book version of the musical.

New Songs (Wicked’s Version)
Wicked: For Good will feature all the songs from the original Broadway soundtrack, which are sung in the second act of the musical, but two new songs will also be added.
Both of the songs are written by the original Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz. Schwartz said in an interview that the new songs are “dramatically necessary” to convey the magic of act 2 of the musical to the screen. One of the new songs is also co-written by Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba.
Are The Same Cast In Wicked Part: 2?
The principal cast from Wicked: Part One will return for the sequel:
- Ariana Grande as Glinda, now referred to as “Glinda the Good.”
- Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, also known as the “Wicked Witch of the West.”
- Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, now “Captain of the Wizard’s Guard.”
- Ethan Slater as Boq.
- Marissa Bode as Nessarose, who rises to become Governor of Munchkinland.
- Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.
- Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz.
Will Dorothy Be In Wicked: Part 2?
I don’t know about you, but as a die hard theater kid, my Tiktok For You Page is still filled with Wicked videos even 2 months on. One intriguing mystery surrounds the character of Dorothy Gale. While Dorothy isn’t part of the second act of the Broadway musical, speculation is rife about how the film will handle her role. Fans on TikTok have theorized that Dove Cameron or Alicia Weir could make their Wicked debut as Dorothy, but no official confirmation has been made.
Wicked 2 Release Date
The good news for fans is that Wicked: For Good is already filmed. Both parts of Wicked were filmed back-to-back to ensure no delays. If both movies added together, the total running time will be around six hours long – more than twice as long as the original broadway show! With all this considered “Wicked: For Good” will hit our cinema screens on November 21st 2025, a year on from the original release date.
I am counting down the minutes and even seconds until I get transported back into the world of Oz. So, I bid you farewell before I keep writing and enter spoiler territory, but I will give you one piece of advice as you rewatch Wicked Part One and view Wicked: For Good, this is that you should remember that everything is intentional in the creation of this film. So, over analyse everything you see on screen.
I would love to hear your theories about the Wicked: For Good, so reach out on the Missy socials and I’ll be sure to read your opinions whilst in my Glinda pyjamas drinking from my Wicked mug.
