Spotted: Gossip Girl Reboot Cast Filming on the Steps of the Met

Team Missy

Hey Upper East Siders, we have some good news for you; after production was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic the Gossip Girl reboot has finally started filming in New York City.

The reboot of the iconic teen show was announced earlier this year, but filming has started in NYC, meaning this is our first time to see the brand new cast in action and we can officially say that we are very excited to see the new series.

Gossip Girl, but make it 2021

This reimagining of Gossip Girl won’t include original stars like Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, but it will still tie into the story in some way.

A logline for the show reads, “Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.”

Screenwriter Joshua Safran also teased that this version will be more inclusive than its predecessor. “There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show,” he told Vulture last November. “I was the only gay writer I think the entire time I was there. Even when I went to private school in New York in the ’90s, the school didn’t necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl. So, this time around the leads are nonwhite. There’s a lot of queer content on this show. It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that. The thing I can’t say is there is a twist, and that all relates to the twist.”

One thing hasn’t changed in the GG world…

One thing that hasn’t changed; the iconic school uniforms. Yep, the new cast are sporting the familiar Constance Billard tartan print, and St. Jude’s lemon shirt and navy blazer.

Of course, just like the original series the students seem to have trouble following the uniform code.

We can just imagine the reaction if we strolled into school with knee high leather boots.

When Will The Gossip Girl Reboot air?

We still don’t have a confirmed release date for the Gossip Girl reboot, or know which channel will be airing it in Ireland (our best guess is SKY and NOW TV due to their ties to HBO) but it will be some time in 2021.

In the meantime we will be pouring over all of the images taken from set.

XOXO
