Hyped Makeup Products That Are Not Worth Your Money

Team Missy

I nearly always buy into hyped makeup products. There’s just something in me that makes me need them. A lot of it is curiosity. Is Glossier really that good? Is that Nars foundation really the best ever? I need to know. So, I almost nearly always buy them.

And surprise, surprise sometimes the products just aren’t worth the hype. So, consider this article my public service; I wasted my money so you don’t have to! Here are the hyped makeup products that are not worth your money, in my very honest opinion.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Are you even a beauty guru if you don’t have this strategically placed in every picture of your dressing table?

I really wanted Shape Tape for so long, but resisted because of the price. I caved in the end and I now I really wish that I hadn’t bothered wasting my money on it.☹️

I know that a lot of people rave about it for under eyes, but no one needs that much makeup. No one! The formula for this is just way too heavy. Too much product comes out on the applicator, which really annoys me. I dont exactly have lines under my eyes, but this just seems to either find them or create them. I’ve also found that the formula makes my skin look really dull. I could keep going, but this was really a dud for me. I think it ended up costing me close to €40 because I bought it form QVCUK.

I actually think that the dupe for Tarte Shape Tape; the Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define Concealer is better. Still a bit too heavy IMO, but better.

This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

I love lavender and after seeing everyone rave about how this created a lovely, relaxing bedtime I just felt like I needed it to make my life better. Reader, I did not need it.

I just don’t think that there is really a smell from this at all. I spray it and then the scent just disappears immediately. For €20 it’s in no way worth the money. Instead, I’d recommend making your own using lavender essential oils.

Benefit Hoola Bronzer

Benefit get a lot right, but I just don’t think that Hoola was one of them, especially for pale gals. For me Hoola is just way too dark to use as a contour. I do actually like Hoola as an eyeshadow, but it’s not worth purchasing just for that.

I know that there is a new Hoola Lite, so I don’t know, maybe thats better? Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze and Glow is my ride-or die though, so I don’t think I can be convinced.

Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kit

I know I’ll probably be blacklisted for saying this, but I really wasn’t impressed with the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits. You might remember that I was a bit meh when it I first tried it. Well, that turned to extra dislike. It just doesn’t feel nice to wear. It also goes all goopy and weird after an hour or two.

I recently rediscovered the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte and they are SO much better. FYI I think that this set is great value! Budget wise, the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks are incredible and stay on ALL day!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz

I’ll admit that I purchased Brow Wiz three times, but I’ve finally given up the ghost and admitted to myself that it’s just not worth the hype. The look that it gives to eyebrows (done, but not over-done) is good. There’s not a lot of product though, so it only lasts a month or two. My biggest issue is that all three of the ones I purchased broke. The spoolies broke off two and the crayon fell out of another. That’s not good when you’re paying almost €30.

Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil is better. Get the mini for a more budget friendly purchase, it’s only missing the spooly at the bottom! And this kit is such good value!

As a disclaimer, I bought all of the products mentioned myself, so I really do feel qualified to say that I feel like I wasted my money.
