What Your Trip To The Cinema Will Look Like Post Quarantine

Sorcha Kennedy

If you’re like me and love movies, then you’ve definitely been missing your trips to the cinema during lockdown. Now that the cinemas are going to open again, here is what your next cinema trip will be like now that quarantine is over.

Here’s How Cinemas Will Operate Now…

Cinemas are officially allowed to open on the 29th of June, however popular cinema chain Omniplex won’t be opening until the 3rd of July.
According to the Omniplex at Mahon Point, Cork, here are a few new rules that will be put in place. All tickets will have to be prebooked as a way to control crowd numbers in both the theatres and the foyer. There is a 50 person limit for indoor areas put in place by the government, so pre-booked tickets will help with that. This limit will also reduce the cinemas capacity by over 70%. A 2-metre space will automatically be provided next to, in front of, and behind you. New cleaning regimes will also be put in place and sanitation stations will be available to all customers. There will also be reduced showtimes with only one movie starting every 20 minutes (to allow social distancing and allow for extra time for cleaning).

As we work towards the safe re-opening of our cinemas, we’ve implemented some new measures to ensure you have a safe cinema trip! Keep an eye on our feed for re-opening date announcements! 💛 pic.twitter.com/CuyMi15bUQ

The New Movies To Look Forward To

Although this new system may seem weird at the start, there are some awesome movies coming to theatres that will make you run to the cinema. Here are a few of the movies I will be seeing first (these are the release dates as of 29th June and may change). The much anticipated Mulan remake, directed by Niki Caro is set to hit cinemas on the 24th of July. Christopher Nolan’s new film Tenet starring Robert Pattinson and John David Washington is one I’ve been waiting for forever and will be in cinemas at the end of July. And for my literature fans, the new remake of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden starring Julie Walters and Colin Firth will be in cinemas on the 14th of August.
In the meantime, Omniplex are giving you the opportunity to see of your favourite movies on the big screen again.

We’ve got a blockbuster line up of movies this Friday as our reopening phase begins! 🎉

These new rules may seem strange at first, but they are necessary to keep us all safe whilst also supporting the entertainment industry.
Are you excited to head back to the cinema now that quarantine is over?
