5 Things To Do In Dublin This Christmas

Alannah Murray

Well, The Late Late Toy Show is over and we are officially well into December. The rain is worse and you can feel that wind that gets into your bones, which also means that we are now officially allowed to speak about Christmas. Not only that, but we can start to enjoy some of the activities that Dublin city will be providing for this Christmas season. Here’s some of the best Christmas things to do in Dublin in 2022.

Even though Dublin may not be on the same scale as the continental European Christmas markets, Dublin still has some of the cutest markets. The Dublin Christmas Market, or as they call it Christmas at the Castle, is an open-air Christmas market right in the middle of the city that focuses on the best handmade craft vendors in Dublin with over 30 stalls. So, it is the perfect place to pick up some gifts and soak up some of the Christmas Market festivities.

Since its opening, the Wild lights at Dublin Zoo has been one of Dublin’s most sought-after Christmas events. The most beautiful Christmas lights and lanterns are hung and displayed across Dublin Zoo for you to gawk at. The best thing is, the event is very affordable. Priced at €23 for adults and €20 for students, it is the ideal fam night or date night with cute Christmas vibes.

Ice Skating

If you’re looking for something a little further out of the city, ice skating would be a good pick. Dundrum, Swords and Blanchardstown all provide huge ice rinks for very good prices. A proper Christmas experience, with lights and proper Christmas music, ice skating is one of the most Christmassy things you can do. Most prices start from 10 euros and sessions on the ice last anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour.

If you still haven’t got enough of the Christmas market vibes, then back in the central city the Guinness Storehouse opens its gates to put on a show-stopping display of lights and 7 floors of the Guinness experience along with this year’s collaboration with a New-York based Irish visual artist GRIF, that celebrates coming home for Christmas. It runs from the 23rd of November to the 6th of January, but make sure to book in advance, this is a very popular Christmas attraction in Dublin for 2022.

Dun Laoghaire Christmas Festival

Want to ride in a light-up 50s Ferris wheel, overlooking the Christmas-lit city and harbour of Dun Laoghaire? Then come down and indulge in some Christmas food and drinks before heading to look at all of the traditional and nostalgic themes in the market below at the Dun Laoghaire Christmas Festival. From Saturday the 30th of November until December 23rd the festival will be running every weekend from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Entry is free.
