5 Things You Need To Survive The Irish Heatwave

Team Missy

After all the weather warnings we’ve had over the past few years, it’s a bit of shock to have a warning about HOT WEATHER. Hello Irish heatwave!

And sure don’t you know we’ll be complaining about the heat pretty soon, but in the meantime lets enjoy it!

It’s easy to underestimate the power of the sun, especially when you’re having fun with your friends. But we have some tips to keep yourself safe and cool. Plus the essentials that you’ll need to survive the Irish heatwave.

Waterproof Mascara

Waterproof mascara isn’t normally our fave because it just doesn’t give them same fluttery eyelashes as ordinary mascara, but it definitely becomes a necessity in warm weather. Being in and out of the water is sure to make your mascara stream off of you.

Let your skin breath in this weather and don’t clog it up with a whole face of makeup. And if you’re glamming for the ‘gram, just don’t. You don’t want pictures of your face melting off of you, trust us. Just apply some waterproof mascara and just a little bit of an eyebrow product and you’re good to go.  Essence I Love Extreme Volume Waterproof Mascara and Glossier Boy Brow are all you need during hot weather.

Suncream

Obvious is obvious, but for the love of KJ Apa put the suncream on! The only thing you are certain to see after an Irish heatwave is a lot of burnt skin. As a nation we just don’t seem to do sun protection well. But having red raw skin with that new dress is not going to be a good look.

For your face we highly rate the Image Skincare Prevention Daily Matte Moisturiser Oil Free Spf 32. It comes in two versions, hydrating and matte. The matte will go along way in helping keep shine at bay. It’s actually recommended that you wear SPF 365 days of the year, so this is actually a great investment. It’s lovely under makeup too.

Ultrasun is the way to go when it comes to sun cream. This is water-resistant and if applied correctly can last you the whole day. We have spotted this in T.K Maxx from time to time, so make sure that you have a look there. Choose high factors and please forget the notions of getting a tan. These days tan comes in the form of a bottle and not skin cancer!

Lip Balm

You don’t know pain until you get sunburnt on your lips. It can cause blisters and can leave your lips peeling. Ouch!  Make sure that you layer on tons of moisturising lip balm. Bonus points for using something with and SPF. We love Burt’s Bees 100% Natural All-Weather SPF15 Moisturising Lip Balm. It’s safe to say that we’ll be putting the matte lip kits down for the next few weeks!

A Stunning Hat

Yes, the mammy was totally right in telling you to wear a hat. But all the insta models are wearing super fab hats, so we are down with that!

Getting sun burn on your scalp is not a nice experience. Not only can it cause severe headaches and sun stroke, but the skin on your scalp is quite sensitive and even the smallest amount of sun burn can make it extremely sore. Washing your hair and even brushing it can become a thing of torture. And then to make matters worse the skin on your scalp can start peeling. In all, it’s not good. And when you think about it sun burn on your scalp is going to be very hard to treat with after sun and the likes.

So, just save yourself the bother and wear a hat. You’ll look super fab in the process! As always Penneys have some supper fab options. Also check out Accessorize.

Common Sense

Out of everything on this list this is probably the most important; have some common sense.

Have fun. In fact, have lots of it. But make sure that you’re being sensible at all times.

Don’t swim in water without a lifeguard on duty. Sometimes it takes one strong person to say “I don’t think that this is a good idea” for other people to speak up and admit that they have doubts too.

Make sure that you put the suncream on because sunstroke isn’t cool and keep reapplying it throughout the day.

Drink lots of water. And then drink some more!

Keep the fur babies inside and make sure that they have lots of water.

Let the parental unit know where you are at all times. Take a quick read of our how to stay safe on a night out because it’s sound advice for any outing with friends. It’s all fun and games until it’s suddenly not and you’ve found yourself in a bad situation.
