Dear Katie: I'm Struggling To Deal With The Pressures of Social Media
Dear Katie,
Do you have any advice on how to deal with the pressures of social media? I always feel like people are judging what I post and how many likes it gets or how many followers I have.
Emily, 15.
Dear Emily,
Although you might not believe it, lots of other people struggle with the pressures of social media on a day-to-day basis as well. So, you’re most certainly not alone. Social media is a wonderful thing, it allows you to stay in contact with friends, see what’s going on in the world and keep up-to-date with peers. But it can be scary too. There’s a lot of pressure put on teenager’s today to have the most followers or get the most likes on a post, and if you don’t, it might make you feel down.
Thankfully, you cannot see the amount of likes on an Instagram post anymore, which should relieve some of the pressure. My advice to you is if you want to post something on social media, do it because it makes you happy and that’s why you want to share it with the world. Stop worrying about how many likes it will get or what others will think, do it for you and only you.
Try to ignore any rude or nasty comments because when people are jealous of someone else’s happiness, they’ll always try to bring them down. Stop letting likes and followers influence your choices on social media. If it all becomes a bit too much to handle, take a break for a while. If you want to post about something that makes you happy, forget about what everyone else is doing and just keep living your best life!
Love,
Katie x
