How To Stop Caring About What Other People Think
Caring too much about what people think is a common problem among adolescents and adults alike. It is so important that we realise this before we begin to make a change.
Here’s how to stop caring about what other people think
You can never please everyone
It is impossible to please everyone and that’s ok. There will always be people that do not like you. Someone will always have a problem with what you’re doing, no matter what. We often feel that if everyone isn’t happy with our outcome something must be drastically wrong even if the majority of people are. We tend to focus on the negative rather than the positive and take on the one criticism while ignoring all the compliments. Forget everyone else and focus on what makes you happy.
Surround yourself with those who appreciate you
Surround yourself with those who build you up, not bring you down. Along the way you will find at least a few people who appreciate you for who you are and not who the world wants you to be. These people will support and love your individuality and you will find that these are the people that will stick around you for a long time. Cut the toxic people who treat you horribly out of your life to make way for those friends who truly care about you.
People who make negative comments about you actually reveal more about themselves
People who make negative comments about you reveal more about themselves by what they say. This is such an important thing to remember and something that not nearly enough people understand or pay any heed to.
If someone talks about you in spiteful manner behind your back or even says a negative comment to your face, it often has nothing to do with you. It is hard to step back when the insults are flying but next time, try to consider instead that the person may be jealous or envious of what they see in you.
Realise everyone makes mistake
Everyone makes mistakes not just you. As Albert Einstein once said ‘A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new’. Do not, I repeat do not hold yourself back on account of others. If you let this happen, the person this will affect most, is you. Therefore, it is vital that you do not stop trying to find your own way. Letting other people’s thoughts interrupt your flow will only cause damage to your mental health.
No one cares
People thrive off your failures so do not let them see that they get to you or this will increase their impact ten-fold. However even when you do feel demoralised by others, they are not thinking about you every second of the day. Thinking that others are solely focused on you will cause you to overthink everything and overanalyse everything you do. At the end of the day no one except you can control your emotions. It is up to you and you alone to look after your mental health and unfortunately no one can change your thinking but you.
Letting people get to you will only impact you negatively in the long run.
Thinking about what people think is mentally draining and has a negative impact on your mental health. It is so important to remember your worth and not measure yourself based on what other people think or what you think other people think!
