Things To Do Instead Of Going On Your Phone

Yussra Benrabah

Have you ever checked your screen time on your phone and been embarrassed by how many hours have been logged on. If so, then don’t worry, we’ve all been there but it might be time for a social media detox in order to have you feeling better overall. Here are 5 things to do instead of going on your phone and to reduce your screen time.

Read a Book

Books are a great way to be entertained in a way that wont be harmful for you. Even going out to buy a book can be a fun way to spend your time, without going on your phone. You also don’t need to spend lots of money on books, I recommend going to charity shops and picking up a book there, you can easily find one for 5 euro or cheaper! Next, if you don’t want to keep the book after you read it, I highly suggest you sign up and get a library card. Here, there’s no commitment and if you don’t like a book you can just return it and all for free!

Pick up a Hobby

2024 is the year of hobbies! Try picking up something that will let you be creative and keep you entertained or maybe something that you used to do but forgot about lately. Lots of people recently have picked up crochet so there should be many tutorials easy to follow on youtube. Baking is also another way to spend your time without going on social media. It’s also great because at the end of it you get a sweet treat!

Go For A Walk and Listen To a Podcast

Lots of people have been releasing podcasts recently, however, I’m sure due to social media our attention spans are not the greatest to listen to for around 40 minutes which is the average length for a podcast. Going for a walk can be a great way to stay entertained while listening to a podcast and can also be great for your mental health, making you feel happy due to the endorphins released when moving your body. You can listen to the Missy podcast here.

Do Arts and Crafts/ DIY

Colouring and drawing are very relaxing tasks that people often stop doing once they grow older but colouring or drawing can be a very satisfying task to do instead of going on your phone and doom scrolling. As time goes on, you may even find yourself doing more and your drawing skills improving.

Reorganise Your Bedroom

Moving things around in your room can have you feeling refreshed and like you are in a new environment. Also the task of rearranging things in your room can be really fun and is a great way to spend some time off of your phone. Simple acts such as these can often go overlooked when we find ourselves spending a little too much time on our phones.
