Beach Reads: 5 Brilliant Books for Some Beach Bliss
Lying on the sand with the sun almost on your face (it is Ireland after all!) and the crash of the waves is the perfect time for a bit of light reading.
Whether you’re jetting off on holiday or relaxing at the local beach here are five feel good beach reads perfect for the summer…
The Secret Dreamworld Of A Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
Sophie Kinsella has managed to write a book that revolves around one of my favourite activities, shopping!
Becky Bloomwood is a dedicated shopaholic whose carefree attitude to life (and her growing credit card bill) tends to land her in unfortunate situations. However, she has plenty of friends to help her out of these situations. And even more friends to land her in them!
The Secret Dreamworld Of A Shopaholic combines humour and romance to create the perfect summer read. Seven more novels in the series have also been published so the hilarious adventures of this shopaholic can keep you entertained all summer.
One Perfect Summer by Paige Toon
This book has all the elements of a perfect seaside story. Alice Simmon’s first love is one she won’t soon forget.
Although, with moving out and starting college on the horizon her life looks set to get a lot more interesting. Starting the summer after Alice’s final year in school, One Perfect Summer follows her as she struggles to move on with her future while still keeping hold of her past. From the dramatic first love to the devastating heartbreak One Perfect Summer is an addictive read.
And By The Way by Denise Deegan
There is nothing better to beat that tiny smidge of homesickness like a book set in Ireland. And By The Way follows Alex Newman as she tries to find her old self, the self she lost six months ago when her mother passed away.
Admittedly these are not sentences typically used to describe a beach read but Deegan’s combination of Irish humour and teen romance create an enjoyable read. While her two best friends try to help her navigate this new stage in her life its not until she gets to know fellow classmate David McFadden that Alex wonders if she will learn how to trust and love again.
Once And For All by Sarah Dessen
Once And For All is a fairy tale romance. Or it would be if main character Louna believed in happy ever afters. Her summer job helping brides plan their big day and her own first romance have left her sceptical of true love. However, in true beach read fashion, along comes the boy determined to change her mind.
Charming and hilarious this book is perfect for a lazy summer afternoon.
Oh My God What A Complete Aisling by Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen
No summer beach reads list is even close to complete without a copy of this brilliant book.
The OMGWACA books are the best-selling fiction titles published in Ireland this century and for good reason. From start to (far too early) finish this book will have you in stitches. Aisling travels between her family home in affectionately named country area BallyGoBackwards and her work life in busy Dublin city.
The OMGWACA series is so hilariously Irish that when it first hit UK shelves someone posted a glossary of terms so that it could be understood by anyone not from Ireland. Relatable and brilliantly funny this book is an absolute must on any reading list. Also with the highly anticipated third novel in the series due for release in mid September this summer is the perfect time to get to know Aisling and all the gang.
