Homemade Craft Ideas For Christmas

Ella Morley

Christmas time presents the perfect opportunity to get crafty that will be as enjoyable to make as they are charming to gift to friends or yourself!

Here some easy homemade craft ideas for Christmas…

Snowflakes

A paper snowflake is a simple yet classic decoration that looks extremely effective. All you have to make one is, get a square piece of paper, fold it in half diagonally. Fold the triangle in half again and repeat this as many times as you wish. Next take a scissors and cut a few shapes into the sides of the triangle. These can be anything from triangles to semi-circles. Unfold your paper and voila. Your very own unique snowflake!!!

Dried Orange Decorations

To add a personal touch to the decorations this year, why not have a go making your very own homemade one?

All you need is

  • fresh oranges thinly sliced
  • baking paper

Heat oven to 140C/120C fan/gas 1 and line 2 baking sheets with baking parchment. Slice the oranges very thinly.  Arrange the slices on the trays, then bake for 45 mins-1 hr, turning halfway through cooking, until completely dried out. Leave to cool.

You can use the oranges as decorations for your tree, garland or door wreath – they smell amazing too!

Scene in a Jar

We are all familiar with the classic Christmas displays whether they be nativity scenes or a car stuck in the snow. For this simple craft you will need – you guessed it a Jar. Stick figurines or objects to the bottom of the jar with glue and screw the lid back on. Get as wild and creative as you would like. Placed on the mantel piece, these creations look extremely effective almost as if you have captured a whole other world inside of a jar.

Who does not love a homemade Christmas garland? They add festive cheer to any place they adorn and give the whole room the traditional Christmas look. The classic and simple paper chain garland is an all-time favourite. All you need are paper, scissors and a stapler and you are all set to begin. Simply cut some strips of paper about an inch wide each. Make a circle with one strip staple it and loop another one through the shape. Repeat this for as long as you see fit to create the perfect paper garland.

Cookies

Cookies are one of the best things about Christmas. There are so many recipes that you will never get bored baking them. You can go all out decorating your cookies or simply leave them plain. They are simple yet delicious and if you are ever in need of a quick dessert, cookies are the way to go. If you are in need of a present for a friend, they are perfect but if you want to give them more of a challenge, place all of the dry ingredients they need in a mason jar, decorate with a bow and label it with the baking instructions. Cookies are guaranteed to satisfy your taste buds and always leave you craving more.

Happy creating!!!
