How To Overcome A Slump
There is nothing worse than being stuck in a slump. You feel trapped and unable to escape. However, you will break free from it, there is no doubt about it. In the meantime, here are some tips to help you overcome a slump.
Talk It Out
Talking about how we feel to someone is a great first step to overcoming a slump. As humans, we tend to bottle up our feelings. Sometimes we do not realise how much is going on inside our head. Unloading is guaranteed to make you feel at least a little better than you did before. However, if no one around you is available right now, then why not try writing it out. Getting it all out on paper will help you to let go of a lot of stuff that is keeping you stuck. Communicating our emotions in a healthy way can help us to realise just how much we have been holding onto.
Get Some Exercise
Take a walk and invite a friend along.Catching up with someone may do you the world of good. Change the route you usually take. This slight change just might make your day more interesting. Hearing someone else’s troubles can often put your own issues into perspective.
Maybe follow a workout out on YouTube or why not go for a jog while listening to your favourite playlist. I do not need to tell you that exercise is good for you. I am guessing that you have heard this a million times before. However, as well as being good for your physical health, it also works wonders for your mental health. During Lockdown it was far too easy to neglect exercise. If you have not done any today, then this is your sign to get up and start moving. Exercise might just help you to defeat your slump.
Practice Some Self-care
Take a few deep breaths and relax. Close your eyes and take a nap. Sleep is very beneficial when trying to conquer a slump. Try some journaling or meditation. Changing up your routine or trying out a new hobby can help increase your motivation levels. What about a face mask or bath to ease any tension you may feel? Simply cozing up to a good book or popping on a good film is a great way to just relax.
Sometimes we can forget how important it is to look after ourselves, especially in times like these. If you are experiencing a slump, take an opportunity to practice a bit of self-care.
Focus On One Thing At A Time
Sometimes work or upcoming exams can get in the way of a self-care day. Sometimes you will not be able to relax properly until this work is complete. Then take note of the following advice. Slowing down and taking small steps is key when experiencing a slump. Focus on one thing at a time. This will help prevent you from getting overwhelmed.
Looking at the list of things you have to do can cause unnecessary stress. Concentrating on one thing at a time is far more constructive than spending your time worrying about all the things you need to do. Write down a list of things that need to be done, prioritise them and then get started. Remember to put some time for yourself on the list as well. You deserve it and as for this slump – you will get through it.
